The WCI Vikings went 1-2 on the weekend in London at the Forest City Shootout, against pretty solid opposition. Three other CWOSSA teams also participated, however, results weren't immediately available. We'll pass those along once we get them.
In pool play, WCI got off to a quick start against traditional powerhouse Father Henry Carr from Toronto, taking an early lead in that game before Carr's defensive pressure allowed them to take that tilt 58-40. Adam Anagnostopoulos netted 13 and Dani Elgadi 9 for WCI in the loss.
The Vikes' second pool game was against Sault Ste. Marie's Korah CI, which the Vikes took by a 63-40 score, backed by 15 from Jacob Ranton, 13 from Zach Totzke, and 10 from Dani Elgadi. WCI was able to overcome a limited "rest period" (only 90 minutes between games) in that victory.
Only the top team in each pool advanced to the championship quarterfinals; the remaining teams played against other 2nd or 3rd place finishers.
WCI's consolation game was against Toronto Northern, who many may remember from this year's Heinbuch Tournament. In a back-and-forth affair, the Vikes dropped a 55-51 battle. Leading the way were Totzke (16), Alex Heap (13) and Anagnostopoulos 12.
WCI is back in action in WCSSAA league play this week.
