North Park Collegiate Trojans are a talented junior boys basketball team.
However, as good as they are, the Trojans have a tall mountain to climb if they're going to win the Brant County championship.
North Park, a 62-39 winner over the solid Brantford Collegiate Institute Colts on Thursday night, will have to find a way to beat the undefeated St. John's College Green Eagles to claim a title.
St. John's ran to a 56-35 win over the Lions at Assumption College to keep their undefeated streak alive.
In other junior action, Paris District High School Panthers defeated the Pauline Johnson Collegiate Warriors 39-15.
Regular-season play concludes with a tripleheader Jan. 18.
The Eagles and Trojans, who have first and second places locked up, receive byes through sudden-death quarter-final games Feb. 8 but will have to play sudden-death semifinals Feb. 10.
Neither the Eagles nor the Trojans should have much trouble qualifying for the best-of-three championship series. However, North Park's head coach Adam Petersen warned that his Trojans aren't thinking beyond their semifinal game, which will most likely be against the Colts.
"We're not looking at St. John's until we get past BCI," said Petersen.
The Trojans have suffered two tough losses, both at the hands of the Green Eagles.
Petersen said that there's no secret formula to beating St. John's.
"It's for all five guys to be on the same page at the same time," Petersen explained.
"It's commitment to the little things and eliminating the mental mistakes that St. John's doesn't seem to make.
"It has to be one of those perfect storms to come together for us to be successful against St. John's but by no means are we looking past BCI."
The Trojans pulled away from the Colts in the second quarter.
Vishol Brar scored 20 points for North Park. Jon Dulmage got 11 and Tyarr Powell-Hodges got seven.
Mackenzie Mark scored nine points for the Colts and Kelby Sakaluk added seven points.
