The #11 Bluevale Knights dropped a 47-32 decision to #6 Hamilton St. Thomas More Knights in the opening game of the Silver Fox Tournament in Hamilton this morning.
Bluevale was down 6 at the half, despite shooting only 1-for-7 from the free throw line in the first half. They are also shorthanded --- down to 8 players for the weekend --- and as such the STM Knights were able to push the margin a bit as the game went on.
Stefan Cvkralj led Bluevale with 13, while Paul Petrucelli had a game-high 15 for More.
Bluevale will now play Hamilton Westmount in a consolation-side game at 2:30pm (Barton SS). Had BCI pulled the victory, they would have actually played a lower-ranked team in the quarterfinals as #14 Cardinal Newman (Stoney Creek) upset #3 Fr. Henry Carr 48-44.
At any rate, going back to Bluevale's next opponent, CWOSSA fans may recall that Kitchener St. Mary's played Hamilton Westmount in the Pinky Lewis tournament earlier this year, winning by an 88-59 final.
More details can be found on the tournament's website, http://www.silverfoxbasketball.ca/ --- there's also some great information & records about prior year tournaments.
