Mark's Senior Picks - Tuesday, October 19th

Before we get into today's picks, I should tell you that St. James swept Orangeville yesterday in a junior-senior doubleheader out in Orangeville.

The Senior game featured two clubs that were a combined 0-14 on the year, and it ended up as a 41-31 St. James final.  The "usual suspects" were high scorers on Monday afternoon --- Erica Zen had 11 for St. James, while Tori Quinn hit double figures (10) for ODSS.

In the late game, the St. James' juniors won 54-23 to improve to 8-0.

D10 Picks Record:  31-1, .969
WCSSAA Picks Record:  36-7, .837

D10

Centre Wellington (6-2) at Orangeville (0-8)
Last Game:  CWDHS, 44-18
Pick:  CWDHS
There should be no troubles for the Falcons in improving their record to 7-2 (they had 6 wins all of last season).

Bishop Mac (8-0) at Lourdes (4-4)
Last Game:  BMac, 54-47
Pick:  BMac
You really need a squad at full strength to be able to compete with the Celtics; the recent rash of Lourdes injuries means that I'll take BMac to extend their winning streak today.

St. James (1-7) at Centennial (2-6)
Last Game:  CCVI, 33-24
Pick:  CCVI
The St. James Lions will look to extend to a two-game win streak on Tuesday, but I still think the Centennial Spartans have the edge at home.

JF Ross (6-2) at Guelph CVI (5-3)
Last Game:  JFR, 48-42
Pick:  GCVI
The Gaels are 3-0 at home, and 2-3 on the road.  Although the teams that they've played at home and on the road can help to explain that phenomenon, there's something to be said about the GCVI gym and the rims in particular.  I'll take the home Gaels in this important toss-up game.

WCSSAA

Glenview Park (0-6) at Galt (3-3)
Pick:  GCI
After a bit of an up-and-down start to their season, the Ghosts should get two wins this week ---- well, a guaranteed one anyways on Thursday with the "bye" win.  I expect them to beat GPSS tonight and head into next week with a solid 5-3 record.

KCI (5-1) at Southwood (4-2)
Pick:  KCI
I expect the Raiders to come out firing after their big loss at home to WCI last Thursday.  The Sabres are no slouch themselves, but look for KCI to be ahead at the end.

Bluevale (4-2) at Forest Heights (1-5)
Pick:  BCI
The Knights should continue to make a march towards a home playoff game with a win here, provided they aren't looking ahead to an important Thursday showdown with Cameron Heights.

Waterloo CI (6-0) at Elmira (3-3)
Pick:  WCI
Look for the Vikings to continue their winning ways on the road, this time at the expense of the EDSS Lancers.

SJAM (3-3) at Eastwood (5-1)
Pick:  ECI
An important game for both squads.  SJAM is right in the thick of things in the fight for playoff berths and positioning, while the Rebels are setting their sights on one of the four "first round byes" available.  I'll take ECI at home.

Grand River (2-4) at Cameron Heights (5-1)
Pick:  CHCI
Yes, as described before, the Rens are much better than their record might indicate.  That said, Cameron Heights is playing some great basketball right now and should pick up another win here today.

Preston (4-2) at WODSS (2-4)
Pick:  PHS
An important game that the Panthers must win, especially with two very tough games on the radar for next week (KCI & WCI, respectively).  I'll take them to win this one.

    Hey Mark

How long do you think that WCI can go undefeated for?

  2. Hi Anon,

    Thanks for the question.

I think WCI has a great shot of finishing the regular season undefeated, especially if they can beat Eastwood on Thursday.

Of course, you never know as anything can happen in a one-game situation.

FYI - the Vikings have lost a couple games in some of the higher profile tournaments that they've attended. Still, they (along with St. John's) are the definite favourites at this point to get the AAAA OFSAA berths.
