The Eastwood Rebels finished in 2nd place at the Southwood Invitational Basketball Tournament this weekend, dropping the championship game to a strong Ancaster team.
The Rebs started their tournament by nipping Highland SS (Dundas) 46-45, backed by 23 points from star forward Michelle Hudyn.
This set up a solid WCSSAA match-up with Cameron Heights CI, who defeated Centre Dufferin by what my sources say "about 10 points" in a game that saw over 130 combined points. Rachel Krushnisky had 39 points for CDDHS in that contest.
The Eastwood/Cameron game was another great game --- the Rebels came back after Cameron had opened up a 10 point lead at halftime, and took the game to overtime where they pulled out a 54-51 overtime victory.
The Rebs didn't have much left in the tank for Ancaster in the final, however, as they dropped the final 54-24.
Battle for CWOSSA
Both Eastwood and Cameron Heights would appear to be the frontrunners for WCSSAA's second CWOSSA "AAAA" berth (WCI looks like the pick at this point for the first one). With the Gaels having won the regular season matchup (and currently hold the better record --- 7-1 vs. 6-2), they have the inside lane at this juncture of the season.
Eastwood's remaining schedule includes Elmira, Southwood, Grand River, and Galt. The Gaels have Jacob Hespeler, Forest Heights, SJAM, and Waterloo-Oxford.
