The Bluevale Knights continue to roll.
My #3 "AAAA" CWOSSA team (and - at least according to my rankings - the top team AAAA team outside of Brantford) thumped the 6-1 Cameron Heights Gaels to the tune of 50-18 on Thursday afternoon at Bluevale.
Bluevale's balanced team effort saw scoring efforts of 12 points from Hannah Fishbein, 8 from Natalie Bishop and 7 from Tessa Dent. Cathy Bekhyt (6) and Madeline Lucke (5) were the high scorers for Cameron.
With the win, the Knights improve to 8-0 on the season, and, along with Jacob Hespeler and Elmira are the last undefeated teams in the WCSSAA league. Though the Knights defeated the Hawks by 6 at a tournament in Hespeler earlier this year, the clubs do not play during the regular season ---- so we'd have to wait until the playoffs for a possible rematch there. The Lancers, though, do battle with both Bluevale and JHSS the last week of the regular season (November 2nd and 4th).
Here's the rest of WCSSAA's Thursday action:
WCI 35, Eastwood 24
The WCI Vikings pick up their first victory of the season at the expense of the ECI Rebels, who entered the contest with 1 win. Maggie Birch joins the 15+ club for WCI with a 15 point effort, while Abby Breckles had 8. Lori Stankiewicz again led the Rebs with 10.
Waterloo-Oxford 55, KCI 27
After being "upset" by Preston on their home floor earlier in the week, the Crusaders took out some frustrations on the road on Thursday, defeating an "AAA" rival, the KCI Raiders. Madison Horst (16) and Rebecca Payne (14), as usual, led the way for WODSS. KCI's top gun, Christiana Koebel, was held relatively in check, with 11. Kelsey Dawe was also in double figures for the Raiders with 10.
Grand River 48, Forest Hts. 30
Big performance by Stephanie Schumacher for Grand River here as she poured in 24 points in the win. Ana Milanovic added in 9 for the Rens, while Cass Wettlaufer led the Trojans with 9 points. The win keeps the Rens in the running for a possible first-round playoff bye.
Jacob Hespeler 35, Glenview Park 18
The Hawks improve to 8-0, joining Bluevale as the only two undefeated clubs left in WCSSAA. Megan Sibley (12) and Brooklynn Wright (6) led the way on Thursday afternoon; GPSS received a 10-point effort from Jocelyn Kivell.
Preston 35, Southwood 19
CWOSSA top-scorer Ashley White continued to roll, outscoring the Sabres on Thursday with a 21-point effort of her own. Her Panther teammate Jenna Mitchell chipped in 8 for the winners, while Southwood was led by Abby Todd with 7.
Elmira 33, SJAM 30
The Elmira Lancers are not doing it the easy way. Of course, a win is a win is a win. They improve to 8-0 with yet another close victory --- this time by 3 over SJAM. Of their last 4 wins, 3 have been by three points or less. Top scorers for the Lancers here were Jocelyn Lubert (15) and Bailey Bond (8). Julia Deakin and Jillian Reiter had 8 each for the Highlanders.
Huron Heights 45, Galt 19
The Huskies improve their playoff chances with a big win against Galt. Emily Bidinosti led the way on Thursday with 15 points, while Jenna Gangl had 8. Kirstan Gergely (4) and Carissa Grove (4) were tops for the Ghosts.
