The Monsignor Doyle Mustangs' senior girls basketball team were "less than friendly" hosts at their home tournament this past weekend.
The 'Stangs swept their three contests this past weekend in the round robin tournament, defeating Preston (36-25), Guelph St. James (40-28) and Brantford's Pauline Johnson (48-28).
After dropping their opener, Preston rebounded with victories in their other contests to come in second with a 2-1 record. Saturday's contests for them saw them win against Pauline Johnson 49-33 and then top St. James 53-38 in their finale.
Saturday's other game saw the St. James Lions get in the win column over Pauline Johnson to the tune of 46-21. Things do look good for the future of St. James basketball based upon the performances of their junior girls team in this same tournament (to be described in a separate post momentarily) as well as the work of their young grade 10 and 11 players, most notably grade 11 shooting guard Erica Zen, who hit 8 three-pointers en route to a 28 point performance against Preston. Grade 10 guard Julia Rawston knocked in 5 three-pointers herself in the win against Pauline Johnson.
Final Standings
1. Monsignor Doyle (3-0)
2. Preston (2-1)
3. St. James (1-2)
4. Pauline Johnson (0-3)
