The D10 boys schedule will be tipping off tonight with a full four game schedule in each league.
In the senior division, the season starts out with a rematch of last year's D10 championship game between JF Ross and Centennial (4pm @ CCVI). However, the Spartans appear to be rebuilding a bit this year after losing several 5th year seniors, including Rob House, Jay Francis and Adrian Varilla. However, they will receive some talent from last year's D10 junior finalists that should keep them competitive.
As for JF Ross, they appear to be the odds-on favourite (with St. James a close 2nd) to take the D10 title.
Speaking of those Lions, they will match-up in a great game against Sharieff Peru, Mike Finoro and the Lourdes Crusaders. Now, given Lourdes' long football season that stretched into CWOSSA play, I'm not sure exactly how many practices they'll have had under their belt. Look for a great scoring battle in this one between Finoro and St. James star Ryan Higgins.
Lourdes also adds some strong talent from their junior program and would appear to be a top three club on paper in the D10 league.
A year removed from a quarterfinal playoff victory over Lourdes, the Centre Wellington Falcons could prove to be a darkhorse in D10 play again this season, thanks to a plethora of returning talent. They'll start their 2010-11 campaign on the road at GCVI today (4pm).
Meanwhile, the final senior game is between the two clubs that finished at the bottom of the D10 standings last season --- Bishop Mac and Orangeville. I look for the Celts to improve into (at least) the middle of the pack this year, thanks in part to some strong talent moving up from (arguably) the best junior team in CWOSSA.
In case you're curious, here's my preseason D10 senior ranking:
1. JF Ross
2. St. James
3. Lourdes
4. Centre Wellington
5. Bishop Mac
6. Centennial
7. Guelph CVI
8. Orangeville
Today's Senior Picks
BMac over ODSS
CWDHS over GCVI
St. James over OLOL
Ross over CCVI
Junior games, which feature the same clubs, go at 5:15 or 5:30 (i.e. after the senior tilts).
