WCSSAA Senior Final: (1) WCI vs. (2) KCI

(1) WCI vs. (2) KCI - WCSSAA Sr. Girls Championship, Preston HS (8:00pm)

Regular Season:  WCI 54, KCI 27

Key Players
KCI - Olivia Nelles (#24); Kate MacTavish (#41); Barbara Robertson (#43); Skye Johns (#55)
WCI - Lindsay Taylor (#12); Lindsay Lessard (#14); Alyssa Shortt (#24); Bria Dietrich (#34)

The WCI Vikings and KCI Raiders.  Two teams that have become synonymous with WCSSAA Senior Girls' basketball success.

Yet again, these two clubs will match up in the WCSSAA final, and you can be sure that the Vikes will be seeking some payback after KCI won last year's matchup by 2 points on a late basket.

The Vikes enter the game as the favourite (at least 68% of you think so according to our current poll numbers at right), especially after doubling up the Raiders 54-27 during their league contest.  Though, based upon the reports I've heard, I don't know if we can take that result too seriously.

Personally, I think the Raiders are possibly peaking at just the right time, after they handled Cameron Heights with ease in the semifinals (backed by 31 from Kate MacTavish).  She'll have to have a solid outing again for the Raiders here today (10 points in the regular season meeting).

The Vikes, meanwhile, need to keep cranking up the defensive intensity.  They love to press and trap all over the court, and if the Raiders aren't able to switch on the intensity early, they could be in for a long night.

Both teams have solid bench production as well; WCI holds a slight edge there with grade 10 guard Erin Helsby and PG Julia Pavlik.  I'd look for both teams to go 7 or 8 deep tonight, depending on each team's foul situation.

I'm anticipating a frenetic atmopshere down at Preston for this one --- both schools have historically brought out some loud fans, and I would expect nothing less here.

As for my pick.....I look for it to be (obviously) closer than last time, but I still think the Vikes will be on top at the end.

Mark's Pick:  WCI 58, KCI 48
