The Delhi Raiders capped an impressive campaign with a couple of big wins en route to the junior gold medal. Delhi opened up with a 55-26 semifinal win over Peninsula Shores, and then took CWOSSA gold with a dominating 59-11 win over NSSAA rival Waterford DHS, who had advanced to the finals with a close 31-28 win over Kitchener Rockway.
In the semifinal win, Morgan King had 19 points, while Taylor Simpson netted 14 and Kendra Freund 13.
In the final, King again led the scoring with 18, Simpson had 12 and Kendra Ebdon had 11.
Meanwhile, in the second half of the junior-senior championship doubleheader, the Walkerton DSS Raiders won the Senior Girls CWOSSA "A" championship.
The Raiders beat Delhi DSS 32-22 in one semifinal, and then dispatched Kitchener's Rockway Mennonite 41-17 in the championship final.
"Strong team defense was the difference for the team (today)," said WDSS coach Kevin Matheson.
The win also qualifies Walkerton for the "A" OFSAA championships next weekend in Welland.
