Heinbuch: HB Beal 48, SJAM 42

The last time London's HB Beal played a first-round Heinbuch game at Kitchener's St. Mary's high school, things didn't quite go so smoothly as they fell victim to a Stefan Cvrkalj buzzer-beater and an eventual defeat to Waterloo's Bluevale Collegiate.

Matched up against another WCSSAA school on Thursday night at St. Mary's, the Raiders got down early but rebounded en route to a 48-42 victory.

Early on, it looked like SJAM might run away with this one ---- Ben Reyhani had a couple of deep threes and eight early points as SJAM took a 12-2 lead to start the contest.  However, Beal would close the first on a 8-2 spurt to trail by only four after one.

Both teams exchanged baskets (and turnovers) in the second stanza; halftime saw this one knotted up at 24.

In the second half, strong play from Beal's Chevaun Miller-Bennett, Trey Langford and grade 9 PG Michael Provenzano allowed Beal to get themselves a lead that they would not relinquish.  They grinded away clock in the fourth quarter and essentially maintained a 6-to-8 point cushion for the majority of the late third and entire fourth quarter.

Miller-Bennett and Langford had 10 each to lead Beal.

For SJAM, Ben Reyhani had a game-high 15 points, while grade 11 rookie Connor Bradley had 8.  Edem Ame had 7, Quinn Turner 4, Theshawn Berry 4, George Makres 2 and Kwame Botchway 2.
