WCSSAA Senior Preview: #2 KCI vs. #3 Cameron Heights

Regular Season:  DNP

Game Time:  7:00pm (at Cameron Heights)

Players To Watch
KCI:  Kate MacTavish, Skye Johns, Barbara Robertson
CHCI:  Erin Robbins (Injured), Siki Jez, Anny Phan, Liz McLellan

By virtue of their win against Bluevale on Thursday, the Cameron Heights' Golden Gaels have earned themselves a home semifinal game against the KCI Raiders.

The Gaels will likely be without starting PG Erin Robbins, who (as mentioned previously) suffered an achilles injury on Thursday's game.  It will be interesting to see how the Gaels react in the early going, especially if the Raiders exert some pressure.  The good thing from a Cameron perspective is that their forwards are all above-average ball handlers, and can help in that regard.

For the Gaels to win, they are going to need big games from Siki Jez and Liz McLellan on the interior; as well as contributions from the starter inserted in place of Robbins (likely Sam Murray).  Anny Phan will also need to continue her steady guard play and hot shooting from the outside.

KCI still has a strong contingent of players from last year's WCSSAA championship, who bring along big game experience.  I expect a great atmosphere for this one between these rival schools, which the experienced Raiders should be able to handle.

I'm not sure if the Gaels will be able to overcome Robbins' injury --- the key for them is going to be getting off to a good start.  If they can gain that confidence early on, they may be able to swing the upset.

Mark's Pick:  KCI 48, Cameron Heights 40
Paul Stickney (Guest Prognosticator)'s Pick:  KCI 53, Cameron Heights 42

I know KCI very well, and though I was predicting a win for KCI, largely because Erin would not play,I was not expecting the blowout, but Kate MacTavish had other plans for Cameron.
