The Centre Wellington (Fergus) Falcons finished second overall this past weekend in the competitive "red" division at the annual Southwood Roundball classic.
The Falcons fell in the final to London's Banting HS by a 56-45 score. Greg Morrow paced Banting with 26 points, while Reid Giondi chipped in with 19 for the Falcons. Morrow was also named as the tournament's MVP.
CWDHS advanced to the finals by dispatching last year's champions, Toronto Silverthorn, by a 58-46 score in the semifinals. Banting defeated St. Joseph's (who beat Cameron Heights in the second round) 51-34.
Dundas Parkside won the consolation final with a 50-41 victory over Philip Pocock (Mississauga).
White Division
The KCI Raiders did ensure that a CWOSSA team would receive some first-place hardware over the weekend, by taking the "White Division" that was played at Glenview Park.
KCI came out on top of the 8-team field that also included Glenview Park, Woodstock CI, Clarke Road (London), Galt, Sydenham SS, Jacob Hespeler and Hamilton's Churchill SS.
