Head coach Nick Esposito was pleased with the way the St. John's College Green Eagles rebounded Tuesday night from last week's opening-night loss.
"I saw a lot of improvement," Esposito said after the Eagles flew to a 64-32 win over the Paris District High School Panthers in a Brant County high school senior boys basketball game at St. John's.
The Eagles began regular-season play last Thursday at North Park Collegiate where the Trojans whipped them in all facets of the game.
"I thought the first game they played like they were a little shell-shocked," Esposito said. "Tonight, they were more relaxed. They let the game come to them. They didn't really try to force anything when they made their mistakes.
"On defence, they were more aggressive than last week and it showed with a good win. Hopefully, that will give them confidence for the rest of the season."
The Eagles jumped into an 18-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They led 30-15 at the half and 55-25 after three quarters.
Tyler Van Leeuwen scored 16 points and J.P. Yurcich got 14 to lead the Eagles' offence. Andrew Clawson, Matt Kusnierz and Taylor Pappin each added six points.
Josh Fabe scored 10 points for the Panthers. Jacob Kelley scored seven points and Taylor Shipp got six points.
