The Bishop Mac Celtics, who are my clear-cut overall #1 junior team in CWOSSA boys' basketball (among any division), steamrolled through two WCSSAA schools before getting an early scare in the championship final of the Timmy Rose Memorial Tournament held at St. David CSS over the weekend.
In the opener, Bishop Mac beat Eastwood CI (currently 2-0 in WCSSAA and my #8 AAAA team) 70-37, backed by 16 points each from Owen Brombal and Jesse Kendall.
In the semifinals, the Celtics topped Kitchener Huron Heights by an 86-38 score, with Kendall scoring 22.
The final against Waterloo's Bluevale Collegiate would prove to be a little bit more interesting. The Knights actually led Bishop Mac 31-24 at halftime, before the Celtics outscored Bluevale 36-11 in the second half to win 60-42. Kendall scored 18 more for Bishop Mac in that win.
This marked the first time that the Celtics scored fewer than 70 points in a game against a CWOSSA opponent, and also marked the first time this season that a CWOSSA opponent came within 20 points of Bishop Mac.
In their league games so far (ODSS/OLOL/STJ/CW), Bishop Mac was victorious by margins of 34, 60, 26, and 29.
