At any rate, the Resurrection Phoenix used their size and depth to their advantage on Wednesday afternoon as they pulled out a 62-52 victory over the St. Mary's Eagles.
This one was within striking distance throughout, with RCSS taking a 13-8 lead after one and 31-29 margin heading into halftime.
In the second half, the deeper Phoenix seemed to be just a bit fresher as they turned a 5-point lead at the end of the third into a 10-point final. The fourth was accentuated by a big dunk by Rez's grade 12 forward Cam Gibbs --- Rez's PG Jeff Rodrigues caught Gibbs streaking in from the corner and fed him a nice pass which he threw down with some authority.
As with any "close game", free throw shooting mattered. St. Mary's shot 59%, while Rez converted almost 85% from the line. Of course, the Eagles did get to the line more (22 versus 13 attempts) --- but the point is that they definitely left a few points there on this night.
