YTD D8 Senior Picks: 23-2, .920
It's a huge day down in Cambridge. The outcomes of both the junior and senior games between St. David and Monsingor Doyle will have a huge bearing on the playoff picture --- not only D8, but there are CWOSSA implications as well.
In the junior division, St. David and Doyle both enter the game with 3-6 records. As such, the winner of today's game will improve to 4-6 and claim the fourth and final D8 playoff berth. In addition, the winner will also secure the junior division's "AAA" CWOSSA berth --- talk about a lot at stake!
In their first meeting, the junior Celtics knocked of the Mustangs at home, 41-35.
The other playoff seeds in the junior ranks are set, as St. Benedict will finish 1st, Resurrection 2nd, and St. Mary's 3rd. Today's other games see St. Benedict host St. Mary's and Resurrection host Rockway. All are 3:30pm starts.
The senior St. David/Monsingor Doyle contest is equally interesting.
Entering today's action, St. David has a 6-3 record, while Doyle and Resurrection narrowly trail with 5-4 marks. Resurrection should improve to 6-4 by defeating winless Rockway (FYI - that's my pick), meaning that a Doyle win over St. David could put all three clubs at 6-4 records.
Resurrection currently holds the +/- tiebreaker over both SDCSS & MDCSS, so they would finish 2nd in that scenario. St. David beat MDCSS by 3 last time out, so if Doyle can make that up, they could finish in 3rd with the Celtics 4th ---- that would be big, given that an "AAA" berth is on the line, plus by finishing 2nd or 3rd you avoid playing St. Mary's in the semifinals.
As you can probably tell by my explanation above, I'm taking the Mustangs at home. Keep in mind that a St. David win today would erase any confusion and put the Celtics 2nd, Rez 3rd, and Doyle 4th.
In today's other game, I like the St. Mary's Eagles to finish the regular season undefeated by taking out St. Benedict.
