As is usual with these 1 vs. 8 matchups in the D10 quarterfinals, this one shouldn't be close. I look for the Lions to win comfortably, but at the same time I would expect their bench to see a lot of minutes today. Of course, that's no slight to the Lions' bench since being a bench player on the St. James team means you could probably start on the majority of junior teams in CWOSSA.
(2) Lourdes (12-2) vs. (7) Centre Wellington (1-13)
Season Series: OLOL 2-0 (W 60-3; W 58-26)
Pick: Lourdes by 38
Yes, that 60-3 result from their first game isn't a typo. Look for the Crusaders to advance to the semifinals here with a big win at home.
(3) Bishop Mac (10-4) vs. (6) Orangeville (5-9)
Season Series: BMac 2-0 (W 53-26; W 37-17)
Pick: Bishop Mac by 18
The Bears have been continually improving throughout the season, and props to them on having one of their more successful seasons in recent memory. However, it ends tonight as the Celtics just have too much depth for them to handle.
(4) Guelph CVI (8-5) vs. (5) Centennial (5-9)
Season Series: GCVI 2-0 (W 48-46; W 44-42)
Pick: GCVI by 8
Though the Gaels won both games this year, they did so by a combined 4 points --- the Spartans match up well with GCVI. Though the Spartans can sneak out an upset (and potentially get the D10 AAAA #1 seed in the process), I will take the Gaels at home here.
Senior Girls
(1) Bishop Mac (13-1) vs. (8) Orangeville (0-14)
Season Series: BMAC 2-0 (W 58-16; W 54-25)
Pick: BMAC by 31
The Celtics advance to the semifinals --- yet again --- with a win here today. Should Lourdes lose to GCVI, they can also wrap up the "AA" CWOSSA berth from the D10 league as well.
(2) Centre Wellington (11-3) vs. (7) St. James (2-12)
Season Series: CWDHS 2-0 (W 49-34; W 50-35)
Pick: Centre Wellington by 12
The Lions can live and die by the three-pointer; if they are falling today they may be able to keep this one relatively close. That said, the Falcons should prevail at home.
(3) JF Ross (11-3) vs. (6) Centennial (4-10)
Season Series: JFR 2-0 (W 43-21; W 57-23)
Pick: JFR by 26
The Royals match up very well with the Spartans, and I look for another big Ross win here today.
(4) Guelph CVI (8-5) vs. (5) Lourdes (7-7)
Season Series: GCVI 2-0 (W 69-34; W 28-24)
Pick: GCVI by 9
The Crusaders have been hit hard this year by injury & illness; though they have what it takes to knock off GCVI I will stick with the Gaels at home.
