CWOSSA Alums: Squamish Chief - C&C Basketball Factory Firing Up

Here's an article, by Squamish Chief writer Ben Lypka, on Jose Colorado, a GRCI ('09) alum who has turned himself into one of the most prolific scorers in the CCAA.  Colorado hit for 43 points in a game last year, and holds the Quest University all-time single season PPG record (19.7).
-----
One’s a bit of a trash talker, the other is a silent assassin.

While one is crashing the hoop, the other is chilling at the three-point line.

Cartiea French-Toney and Jose Colorado are different both on and off the court but combined, they just might be the best backcourt in the Pacwest.

The duo helped lead the Quest Kermodes men’s basketball team to a bronze medal and its best record in school history last season. With Quest hosting the CCAA Nationals in March, the pair has a great chance to add a banner or two to the rafters in the Kermode Kave.

The impact of French-Toney was delayed last year, as the Seattle native was ineligible to play until January. Colorado said once French-Toney hit the floor, it transformed the Kermodes.

“He was a great fit for our team because it’s the first time since I’ve been here that we’ve had a true point guard that can create shots for other people — it really changed our team dynamic,” he said.
“He’s a playmaker and also embraced being a leader. He’s great at directing where everyone should be.”

For the first half of last season, French-Toney watched from the sidelines and knew he and Colorado would be a great match on the court.

“It works out good — when I penetrate I know that if I kick it to him and he shoots it — I expect it to go in every time,” he said. “Jose brings a lot of scoring and he proved it last year. He’s one of the best scorers in the country.”

Colorado said when the two are on the court together, it makes it difficult for the defence.

“Cartiea is a quick and penetrating guard and I complement in the sense that people can’t help off me because if they do, then when I get the ball I’m going to shoot it,” he said. “And if they don’t help then Cartiea is a quick guard and can get to the rim. It’s kind of a ‘pick your poison’ kind of thing.”Quest men’s head coach Sean Shook agreed.

“They’re the exact opposite in what they do out there — which is a positive,” he said. “Cartiea is a guy that can get by people and get in the paint and Jose is a great catch-and-shoot player. They create a lot of space out there for other players.”

“We play off each other,” French-Toney said. “He shoots the ball really well and I attack the basket really well.”

But if the Kermodes want to excel, they’ll need more than just Colorado and French-Toney. Both players mentioned Mike Zayas-Duran, Mike Powell and Connor Heinrichs as keys to the team’s success. Newcomers Paul Getz, Shedrick Nelson and Noah DeRappard-Yuswack are also expected to help strengthen the team’s depth.

“We have more athletes than when I first came in,” Colorado said. “We play much more up tempo and get up and down the court quicker. It’s kind of night and day the way our philosophy has changed since I started here.”

It’s Colorado’s last year as a Kermode and he said he wants to make it a memorable one.
“My expectation is to get a banner,” he said. “Whether it’s Pacwest or Nationals, I want to leave some sort of lasting legacy here.”

French-Toney was more blunt in his goals.

“I want to win it all,” he said. “I feel we’re one of the best teams in the Pacwest if we come and play hard every night. We know Langara and VIU are going to be tough but in my opinion we’re the team to beat.”

Hosting the nationals is also on both players minds but they’re not looking too far ahead.

“It’s great to have them here and a great way for me to go out personally with my last games at home,” Colorado said. “We want to prove that we’re more than just a host team. We want to deserve to be there and hopefully we can make some noise.”

“I think we’re looking forward to nationals as a team but we have to focus on the league first,” French-Toney said. “If you look at our record last year, we were 8-2 at home — we’re a good home team and we want to prove that we belong. We don’t want people asking why we’re at the tournament.”
French-Toney said it would be nice to get more Squamish residents at Quest games and said the team should be fun to watch this year.

“Before, maybe we weren’t winning but now we’re winning and I feel we should get some more support,” he said. “If there’s nothing else to do on a Friday or Saturday night, bring your kids up and watch some basketball. We had a lot of families up during the soccer provincials last year and hopefully they can come support us too.”

Colorado, French-Toney and the Kermodes kick off the regular season against Capilano on Friday (Nov. 1) in North Vancouver. Home opener weekend hits the floor the following week with games on Nov. 8 and 9.

Brant News: Semifinal Showdowns Set for Girls' Hoops

Article By:  Sean Allen

The Brantford Collegiate Institute Mustangs senior girls basketball team is headed into a tough high school semifinal matchup on about the best note possible.

A buzzer-beating three-pointer from way outside the arc won the Mustangs the annual BCI-Assumption College tournament on the weekend.

“There was an inbound pass to Lexi (Lancaster) and she passed it to me,” Grade 11 player Victoria Waud said. “There was no time left so I had to shoot it.”

Waud hit her mark and the Mustangs were celebrating a hard-fought tournament win.
“Everyone went pretty crazy,” Waud said. “I couldn’t believe it went in. I wasn’t set up for a good shot.”

The Mustangs will face the North Park Collegiate Trojans in a Brant high school semifinal on Thursday.

After defeating the Trojans earlier in the season by a single point, the Mustangs fell to North Park in a rematch a couple weeks ago.

They will be looking to move on to the best-of-three final series that will begin next week.

“We got to try out some of our new offences in the tournament that we plan to bring to the playoffs,” Waud said. “It was really good to get a chance to play against some top teams right before the postseason.”

The Mustangs defeated the Holy Trinity Titans from Simcoe, the Cameron Heights Collegiate Golden Gaels from Kitchener and the Cardinal Newman Cardinals from Hamilton in the tournament at Assumption College on the weekend.

Following a 54-15 quarter-final victory by the Trojans over the Pauline Johnson Collegiate Thundebirds on Tuesday evening, the date for the semifinal was set.

The game will be played on Thursday at 7 p.m. at BCI.

The Assumption Lions punched their way through to the other semifinal with a 57-27 win over the Paris District High School Panthers on Tuesday at Assumption College.

The Lions will face the undefeated St. John’s College Green Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at SJC.
In the junior games, the Trojans held off the Panthers 53-33 to advance to the semifinals against the Green Eagles at 4 p.m. on Thursday at St. John’s College.

The BCI Mustangs defeated the PJC Thunderbirds 50-19 to move on to the semis against the Lions on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Assumption College.

Next week’s best-of-three championship series will be hosted at PDHS.

WCSSAA Senior: Qualifying Round Games

(12) Eastwood at (5) KCI
Regular Season:  KCI 47, ECI 27
My Pick:  KCI by 25
Like the junior league, the 12/5 game on the senior side is a game between two teams that played on Tuesday.  The Raiders were at the top of the standings for most of the season, until a tough late-season schedule (and two losses) slid them down to the #5 seed.  They'll move on to the quarters today at home, and likely by a comfortable margin.

(11) Forest Hts. at (6) Grand River
Regular Season:  GRCI 43, FHCI 16
My Pick:  GRCI by 22
The Rens have had some injury issues as of late, being down 1-2 starters at times for their past few games.  Without looking at the injury report, they should still have the depth to get past the Trojans at home today.

(10) Huron Hts. at (7) Cameron Hts.
Regular Season:  CHCI 49, HHSS 46
My Pick:  CHCI by 8
If there's one game to see today, this might be it.  There's some talent on both sides of the ball here, and the clubs battled to a three-point Cameron Heights win a couple of weeks ago at Huron.  Grade 10 guard Nina Farkic has been strong as of late, while Tyshaine Page has provided a consistent outside threat.  Huron Heights isn't deep, but they are balanced, with Katrina Kostecki, Jenna Gangl, Aly Jacobs and company being each capable for double digits on any given evening.  I'll roll with the Gaels at home, but it could be interesting.

(9) Elmira at (8) Southwood
Regular Season:  SSS 47, EDSS 45 (OT)
My Pick:  EDSS by 3
It took a Cali Doran game-winning jumper to win the regular season matchup between these clubs, and in overtime no less.  Again, it should come down to the wire between these clubs but I'll take a flyer on the Lancers to pull out a win for a lower-seeded team on the road.

WCSSAA Qualifying Round: Junior

Here's a look at today's games --- and projections --- in the WCSSAA junior circuit:

(12) Elmira at (5) Preston
Regular Season:  Preston 39, Elmira 24
My Pick:  PHS by 12
Ah, the awkward moment when you play a team on Tuesday, only to turn around and play them again in a playoff game two days later.  Such is the case here, and it can usually be of benefit to the underdog if the favourite (and winner of the previous game) takes them lightly.  I don't think Preston will lose here, but I do expect a low-scoring game similar to Tuesday's outing.

(11) Eastwood at (6) Galt
Regular Season:  Did Not Play
My Pick:  GCI by 18

The Ghosts are actually going into the playoffs with some momentum, having handled a couple of top-8 teams (Preston and Bluevale) by 20+ points in their last two.  Emma Buck and Beth Fleming have had some outstanding performances, and I have a feeling that we'll see another double-digit scoring performance by at least one of them here today.

(10) WODSS at (7) Bluevale
Regular Season:  Did Not Play
My Pick:  BCI by 9
The gameplan for the Bluevale Knights is pretty simple --- stop Emily Glendinning.  The Crusaders' scoring star has accounted for 55% of WO's scoring offense in games that she's suited up for this season, so limiting her will be key for Bluevale to take the victory.

(9) Forest Hts. at (8) Cameron Hts.
Regular Season:  CHCI 25, FHCI 18
My Pick:  FHCI by 3
The Trojans could have missed the playoffs entirely had they lost on Tuesday, but the benefit of tiebreakers propelled them to the #9 seed in the WCSSAA playoffs.  If they can maintain that momentum from the other day, they might be able to squeak past Cameron on the road --- but I see it as a single digit game either way.

D10: Regular Season Finale Thursday

It's the final day of play today in the D10 league, and the playoff picture isn't quite sorted out just yet.

In yesterday's D10 results post, I mentioned the possible playoff scenarios, so you can check that out if you're interested.

Here's the games on tap today:

YTD:  38-11 (.776)

Bishop Mac (11-2) at Lourdes (10-3)
My Pick:  BMAC by 6
I see this as a single-digit game that could go either way, but I'll go with the Celtics here.

JF Ross (3-10) at CWDHS (3-10)
My Pick:  JFR by 11
The Royals should be able to lock up 6th place in the league standings with a road win over the Falcons.

Orangeville (0-13) at Guelph CVI (8-5)
My Pick:  GCVI by 27
Not to say this game is meaningless, but both teams are locked into their playoff positions --- GCVI will finish 4th and Orangeville 8th regardless of outcome today.

Centennial (6-7) at St. James (11-2)
My Pick:  STJ by 12
The Lions need a win to lock down top spot overall in the D10 standings, and I think they'll get it today.

So, I was right?

Just got an e-mail regarding the WCSSAA tiebreaking procedure.

Looks as though my initial instincts regarding the tiebreaker were correct --- or at least, they are now, after the WCSSAA executive made a ruling this morning regarding record against common opponents, with the feeling that teams should be rewarded on record before points.

Obviously, this is the first time that such a scenario has occurred, so I'm sure a bunch of people were scratching their heads over it.

That means that the WCSSAA junior seeding for the tied teams is as follows:

(9) Forest Heights
(10) WODSS
(11) Eastwood
(12) Elmira

And your first-round junior games on Thursday:

(12) Elmira at (5) Preston - 3:30pm
(11) Eastwood at (6) Galt - 3:30pm
(10) WODSS at (7) Bluevale - 5:00pm
(9) Forest Hts. at (8) Cameron Hts. - 5:00pm

WCSSAA Senior: Tuesday Results, Final Standings / Playoff Information

Things were a little easier to figure out on the senior side of things, where the results on the final day of the campaign went as expected:

Elmira 36, Preston 8
EDSS:  Nicole Cressman 10, Karly Sider 8
PHS:  Allison Cranwill 4

Bluevale 55, Galt 21
BCI:  Julia Curran 19, Natalie Bishop 14
GCI:  Courtney Davis 8

Jacob Hespeler 52, Grand River 30
JHSS:  Jasmine Ramcharan 20, Courtney Wright 18
GRCI:  Nyamouch Teny 7

WODSS 54, Cameron Hts. 44
WODSS:  Alisha Glendinning & Maddy Horst 13
CHCI:  Nina Farkic 13, Shama Saleh 10

WCI 63, Huron Hts 33
WCI:  Kaylee Anagnostopoulos 23
HHSS:  Katrina Kostecki 12

KCI 47, Eastwood 27
KCI:  Christiana Koebel 12
ECI:  Mel Samuel 13

Southwood 38, SJAM 29
SSS:  Taylor White 22
SJAM:  Taylor Trush 12

So, your final standings are as follows...

WCSSAA Senior - Final Standings
1.  Waterloo-Oxford 12-0
2.  Bluevale 11-1
T3.  Jacob Hespeler 10-2
T3.  WCI 10-2
T3.  KCI 10-2
6.  Grand River 8-4
7.  Cameron Hts. 7-5
8.  Southwood 6-6
T9.  Huron Hts. 5-7
T9.  Elmira 5-7
11.  Forest Hts. 4-8
12.  Eastwood 3-9
----
T13.  SJAM 2-10
T13.  Preston 2-10
15.  Galt 1-11

And the final seeding for playoff purposes is as follows:
1.  Waterloo-Oxford
2.  Bluevale
3.  Jacob Hespler (H2H over WCI & KCI)
4.  WCI (Common Opponent +/- over KCI)
5.  KCI
6.  Grand River
7.  Cameron Hts.
8.  Southwood
9.  Elmira (H2H over HHSS)
10.  Huron Hts.
11.  Forest Hts.
12.  Eastwood

First-round qualifiers to be played will be:
(12) Eastwood at (5) KCI
(11) Forest Hts. at (6) Grand River
(10) Huron Hts. at (7) Cameron Hts.
(9) Elmira at (8) Southwood

WODSS, Bluevale, Jacob Hespeler and WCI all receive first-round byes (and have the "inside track" towards qualifying for CWOSSA as well).

WCSSAA Junior: Tuesday Results & Final Standings / Playoff Information

The regular season wrapped up on Tuesday in the WCSSAA junior league with not one, but two undefeated teams.

As they didn't play during the year, we don't yet know which one of the teams is officially better but I can tell you that the Grand River Renegades will be the #1 seed entering the playoffs based upon +/- against common opponents.

Before we get to playoff seeding, here's yesterday's results:

Forest Hts. 40, Glenview Park 11
FHCI:  Sona Khalifeh 19
GPSS:  Darcy Simmons 5

Galt 43, Bluevale 19
GCI:  Emma Buck 14, Brittany Gergely 9
BCI:  Kaela Knowles 4, Natalia Mlynski 4

Grand River 45, Jacob Hespeler 32
GRCI:  Nancy Michael 15
JHSS:  Shianne Riggan 12, Maggie Petersen 9

Cameron Hts. 35, WODSS 29
CHCI:  Katrina Stickel 12
WODSS:  Emily Glendinning 19

WCI 38, Huron Hts. 26
WCI:  Victoria Giguere & Ramla Abdulla 15
HHSS:  Manveen Dhillon 7

KCI 36, Eastwood 15
KCI:  Michaela Schlumberger 11, Liv Mickie 9
ECI:  Emma Miller 6

Preston 39, Elmira 24
PHS:  Claire Gagne 11, Avery Levert 8
EDSS:  Cassie Martin 9

SJAM - bye win (SSS)

Final WCSSAA Standings
T1.  Grand River 12-0
T1.  KCI 12-0
3.  Jacob Hespeler 10-2
T4.  SJAM 9-3
T4.  Preston 9-3
T6.  Galt 8-4
T6.  Bluevale 8-4
8.  Cameron Hts. 6-6
T9.  WODSS 4-7
T9.  Elmira 4-7
T9.  Forest Hts. 4-7
T9.  Eastwood 4-7
-----
13.  WCI 3-8
14.  Glenview Park 2-10
15.  Huron Hts. 1-11

In terms of the playoff seeding, it looks like this:
1.  Grand River
2.  KCI
3.  Jacob Hespeler
4.  SJAM (common opponent tiebreak)
-----
5.  Preston
6.  Galt (H2H tiebreak)
7.  Bluevale
8.  Cameron Hts.
9.  FHCI (+/- tiebreak)
10.  Elmira (ABC tiebreak)
11.  WODSS (H2H tiebreak)
12.  Eastwood

....I got ahead of myself yesterday and erroneously tweeted that the seeding for the final four teams was Forest Heights, WODSS, Eastwood and Elmira (my bad!).

Initially, I omitted EDSS from further contention as they had a 1-4 record against common opponents, whereas the other three teams were 2-3.  However, WCSSAA regulations regarding tiebreakers force one team to be deemed the "winner of the tiebreak", and then you repeat the process for the remaining tied teams.

As such, there were 5 common opponents of which Forest Heights had the best +/- differential.

The three remaining teams (EDSS, WODSS, ECI) were then assessed head to head, where EDSS beat WODSS and WODSS beat ECI.  As per the WCSSAA tiebreak procedure, the "A-B-C" rule comes into play (one team beats one, while the other beats team C), placing Elmira 10th, Waterloo-Oxford 11th and Eastwood 12th.

Confused yet?  Good.

Here's the upcoming first-round playoff schedule (teams ranked #1-4 receive byes):

(12) Eastwood at (5) Preston
(11) WODSS at (6) Galt
(10) Elmira at (7) Bluevale
(9) Forest Hts. at (8) Cameron Hts.

Pretty wild last day for the Forest Heights Trojans, who could have been out of the playoffs had they lost to Glenview yesterday, move all the way up to 9th after their win.

D10 Junior Tuesday: Results & Standings

Here's yesterday's results in the D10 league:

St. James 20, Orangeville 11
STJ:  Emily Andrews 6
ODSS:  Maggie Scaife 5

JF Ross 45, Guelph CVI 27

Bishop Mac 35, CWDHS 16
BMAC:  Johanna De Jong 11
CW:  Jodi Richards 6

Lourdes 49, Centennial 26
OLOL:  Rainey Psenicka 11
CCVI:  Carter Godman 14

D10 Junior Standings
T1.  Lourdes 12-1
T1.  Bishop Mac 12-1
3.  JF Ross 10-3
4.  Guelph CVI 7-6
5.  Centennial 5-8
6.  St. James 4-9
T7.  ODSS 1-12
T7.  CWDHS 1-12

Playoff Picture
  • The winner of Thursday's OLOL/BMAC game finishes 1st, the loser finishes 2nd.
  • JF Ross (3rd) and GCVI (4th) are locked into those spots regardless of outcome.
  • St. James needs a 6+ point win over Centennial to overtake them for 5th place.  A CCVI win or loss by 4 or less means the Spartans stay in 5th.
  • ODSS currently holds the =/- tiebreak over CWDHS for 7th place, so CW would need to win their game on Thursday (and have ODSS lose as well) to overtake the Bears.

D10 Senior Tuesday: Top 4 Seeds Now Accounted For

The top four seeds in the D10 standings have now been accounted for, although the exact order will be dependent upon Thursday's results.

In fact, the top four teams (St. James, Bishop Mac, Lourdes and GCVI) were all winners on Tuesday as well.  Here's how things went down:

Bishop Mac 56, CWDHS 8
My Pick:  BMAC by 23
A defensive clinic by the Celts on Tuesday as they moved to 11-2.  Rachael DiGravio had 10 for Bishop Mac, while Kristen Gora had 4 for the Falcons.

Guelph CVI 43, JF Ross 29
My Pick:  GCVI by 7
Ijeoma Staunton had 18 points for the Gaels on Tuesday to pace them to a key win over the Royals.  Sydney Wilson and Katie Strongman each had 9 more for GCVI, while Maddy Darling led Ross with 15.

Lourdes 42, Centennial 40
My Pick:  OLOL by 12
Closer than I thought given the respective teams' fortunes of late, but Lourdes gets the win nonetheless.  Monica Trimble (14), Jackie Iezzi (8) and Charlotte Case (8) were the Crusaders' top scorers, while Emma Cain (17) and Emma Korol (13) led the way for the Spartans.

St. James 64, Orangeville 25
My Pick:  STJ by 32
Nastassja Herriot had 16 for the Lions as they cruised past the Bears, who received 10 from Sam French.

D10 Senior Standings
T1.  St. James 11-2
T1.  Bishop Mac 11-2
3.  Lourdes 10-3
4.  Guelph CVI 8-5
5.  Centennial 6-7
T6.  JF Ross 3-10
T6.  CWDHS 3-10
8.  Orangeville 0-13

Playoff Picture
  • St. James can clinch 1st overall by beating Centennial on Thursday, or if Bishop Mac loses to Our Lady of Lourdes.
  • Bishop Mac can clinch 1st overall with a win against Lourdes, and a Centennial win over St. James.
  • Lourdes has clinched 3rd, but can move to 2nd with a 10+ point win over Bishop Mac.
  • Guelph CVI & Centennial will finish 4th and 5th regardless of outcome on Thursday.
  • The winner of the JF Ross / CWDHS game on Thursday will finish in 6th place.

D10: Tuesday Picks

YTD:  34-11 (.756)

There's two days of play left in the D10 league, with games set to go today and Thursday, before playoffs begin next week.

Here's today's action:

CWDHS (3-9) at Bishop Mac (10-2)
My Pick:  BMAC by 23
The Falcons are on the upswing, but the Celtics will be too much today at home.

Lourdes (9-3) at Centennial (6-6)
My Pick:  OLOL by 12
The Lourdes Crusaders still have an outside shot at one of the top two seeds (and a home semifinal game), but they'll need two wins and some help.  They should be able to get past Centennial here today to take care of the first piece of business.

Guelph CVI (7-5) at JF Ross (3-9)
My Pick:  GCVI by 7
Should be closer than the records would indicate, but I still like the Gaels here today.

St. James (10-2) at Orangeville (0-12)
My Pick:  STJ by 32
The first-place Lions shouldn't have any difficulty with the last-place Bears.

D8 Junior: Celtics Upset Saints, Knocking Them From Top Spot

The St. David Celtics upset the St. Benedict Saints in Cambridge on Monday night, shaking up things at the top of the D8 junior standings.

The beneficiary?  The Resurrection Phoenix, who now finish in first place overall (9-1).  St. Benedict will place second in the league's upper tier (8-2), and will still have a first-round bye.

Megan Goar (14) and Ciarra Dunne (7) led St. David's 30-26 win over the Saints, who were led again by Afifa Salaad's 14-point effort.

In other Monday junior games, it was:

Resurrection 34, St. Mary's 10
RCSS:  Jessica Vasquez 8, Riley Engel & Jana Bin-Edward 6
SMHS:  Iman Ahmed 4

Woodland 24, Mons. Doyle 23
WCHS:  Nicole Nusselder 6
MDCSS:  Victoria Barroso 9

Rockway 35, PRDG 19
RMC:  Jamie Torrence-Perks 16
PRDG:  Cassandra Dumouchel 7

Final Standings - A Division
1.  Resurrection 9-1
2.  St. Benedict 8-2
3.  St. David 7-3
4.  St. Mary's 4-6

Final Standings - B Division
1.  Woodland 5-5
2.  Mons. Doyle 4-6
3.  Rockway 3-7
4.  PRDG 0-10

Playoffs
Both Resurrection (A1) and St. Benedict (A2) will receive first round byes.

St. David (A3) will host Monsignor Doyle (B2) in one QF game on Monday, while St. Mary's (A4) will host Woodland (B1) in the other.

Resurrection will play the St. Mary's - Woodland winner, while St. Benedict will take on either St. David or Monsignor Doyle in the other semifinal next Wednesday.

D8 Senior: Rez Caps Perfect Season

The Resurrection Phoenix are going into the playoffs as the team to beat in D8 Senior Girls' basketball.

The Phoenix knocked off second place Kitchener St. Mary's by a 48-29 score yesterday afternoon, finishing the year with a perfect 10-0 mark.  The Eagles are second at 8-2, with both losses coming to Resurrection.

Scoring details weren't immediately available from source.

The other D8 game on Monday saw the St. Benedict Saints upend the St. David Celtics, 35-34.  Kayla Leusink (18) and Dana Milani (16) accounted for virtually all of the Saints scoring, but it was the other point that ended up technically being the most important.

The win moves St. Benedict to 5-5 and 3rd place overall, while St. David finishes at 4-6.

New to D8 this year are "Quarterfinal Games" between the bottom four teams in the six-team league.

Before we get to that, here's the final standings:

1.  Resurrection 10-0
2.  St. Mary's 8-2
3.  St. Benedict 5-5
4.  St. David 4-6
5.  Woodland 3-7
6.  Rockway 0-10

And now, the first round QF games:
(6) Rockway at (3) St. Benedict
(5) Woodland at (4) St. David

The quarterfinal games go Monday, semfiinals next Wednesday and the D8 final next Friday.

WCSSAA Senior: Projections

There's one series left of games in the WCSSAA regular season for senior girls, so let's go ahead and break things down as to where teams might end up.

Tomorrow's schedule includes:

Huron Heights @ WCI
Southwood @ SJAM
Grand River @ Jacob Hespeler
Eastwood @ KCI
WODSS @ Cameron Hts.
Preston @ Elmira
Bluevale @ Galt CI

The easiest game to predict is Forest Heights, who have a bye win tomorrow and finish their season at 4-8, qualifying for the playoffs.

Bluevale will be overwhelming favourites against Galt Collegiate, a win there will move the Knights to 11-1 and solidly in second place.

Waterloo-Oxford doesn't have quite the same "walk in the park" but I expect them to post a win over Cameron Heights, putting the Crusaders at 12-0, and dropping the Gaels to 7-5.

Look for Elmira (over Preston) and KCI (over Eastwood) to be games that help shape the bottom part of the playoff bracket.

The interesting game tomorrow is Jacob Hespeler hosting Grand River.  Though I like the Hawks there, a Grand River upset win could knock the Hawks to as low as #6 in the WCSSAA playoff bracket.  A JHSS win, though, clinches them the #3 seed.

Here's a look at how I project the field of twelve:

1.  Waterloo-Oxford (12-0) - W CHCI

2.  Bluevale (11-1) - W GCI

T3 (3rd Seed).  Jacob Hespeler (10-2) - W GRCI, tiebreak over WCI & KCI

T3 (4th Seed).  WCI (10-2) - W HHHS; will win +/- against common opponents over KCI for 4th if the teams are tied record-wise.

T3 (5th seed).  KCI (10-2) - W ECI

6.  Grand River (8-4) - L JHSS

7.  Cameron Hts. (7-5) - L WODSS

8.  Southwood (6-6) - W SJAM

9.  Elmira (5-7) - W PHS (Head to Head over Huron Heights)

10.  Huron Heights (5-7) - L WCI

11.  Forest Hts. (4-8) - bye win GPSS

12.  Eastwood (3-9) - L KCI

Projected First Round Games
(12) Eastwood at (5) KCI
(11) Forest Heights at (6) Grand River
(10) Huron Heights at (7) Cameron Hts.
(9) Elmira at (8) Southwood

Projected Quarterfinals
Eastwood/KCI Winner at (4) WCI
Forest Hts/Grand River Winner at (3) JHSS
Huron Hts/Cameron Winner at (2) Bluevale
Elmira/SSS Winner at (1) WODSS
