WCSSAA Qualifying Round: Junior

Here's a look at today's games --- and projections --- in the WCSSAA junior circuit:

(12) Elmira at (5) Preston
Regular Season:  Preston 39, Elmira 24
My Pick:  PHS by 12
Ah, the awkward moment when you play a team on Tuesday, only to turn around and play them again in a playoff game two days later.  Such is the case here, and it can usually be of benefit to the underdog if the favourite (and winner of the previous game) takes them lightly.  I don't think Preston will lose here, but I do expect a low-scoring game similar to Tuesday's outing.

(11) Eastwood at (6) Galt
Regular Season:  Did Not Play
My Pick:  GCI by 18

The Ghosts are actually going into the playoffs with some momentum, having handled a couple of top-8 teams (Preston and Bluevale) by 20+ points in their last two.  Emma Buck and Beth Fleming have had some outstanding performances, and I have a feeling that we'll see another double-digit scoring performance by at least one of them here today.

(10) WODSS at (7) Bluevale
Regular Season:  Did Not Play
My Pick:  BCI by 9
The gameplan for the Bluevale Knights is pretty simple --- stop Emily Glendinning.  The Crusaders' scoring star has accounted for 55% of WO's scoring offense in games that she's suited up for this season, so limiting her will be key for Bluevale to take the victory.

(9) Forest Hts. at (8) Cameron Hts.
Regular Season:  CHCI 25, FHCI 18
My Pick:  FHCI by 3
The Trojans could have missed the playoffs entirely had they lost on Tuesday, but the benefit of tiebreakers propelled them to the #9 seed in the WCSSAA playoffs.  If they can maintain that momentum from the other day, they might be able to squeak past Cameron on the road --- but I see it as a single digit game either way.
