Former WCSSAA MVP Javon Masters (ex-Forest Heights) had a pretty solid opening weekend as a Freshman at the University of New Brunswick.
He led the Varsity Reds in scoring each of the three games of their home tournament, guiding the Reds to a 2-1 record with wins over St. Francis Xavier (82-65) and Laval (85-80). The Reds dropped their opener to the University of Ottawa 88-71, though that was a 5 point game after three quarters.
Here's Masters' stat lines:
vs. Ottawa: 7/13 FG, 2/4 3PT, 3/5 FT, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 Stl - 19 Pts.
vs. St. FX: 9/18 FG, 1/2 3PT, 3/3 FT, 1 Ast, 1 Stl - 22 Pts.
vs. Laval: 7/13 FG, 1/2 3PT, 9/10 FT, 2 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 Stl - 24 Pts.
Oh, and not included in the above note was his one sensational block from behind against St. FX. Here's the video of that block, which as you can see got members of the crowd on their feet:
