WCSSAA Junior: Tuesday Results & Final Standings / Playoff Information

The regular season wrapped up on Tuesday in the WCSSAA junior league with not one, but two undefeated teams.

As they didn't play during the year, we don't yet know which one of the teams is officially better but I can tell you that the Grand River Renegades will be the #1 seed entering the playoffs based upon +/- against common opponents.

Before we get to playoff seeding, here's yesterday's results:

Forest Hts. 40, Glenview Park 11
FHCI:  Sona Khalifeh 19
GPSS:  Darcy Simmons 5

Galt 43, Bluevale 19
GCI:  Emma Buck 14, Brittany Gergely 9
BCI:  Kaela Knowles 4, Natalia Mlynski 4

Grand River 45, Jacob Hespeler 32
GRCI:  Nancy Michael 15
JHSS:  Shianne Riggan 12, Maggie Petersen 9

Cameron Hts. 35, WODSS 29
CHCI:  Katrina Stickel 12
WODSS:  Emily Glendinning 19

WCI 38, Huron Hts. 26
WCI:  Victoria Giguere & Ramla Abdulla 15
HHSS:  Manveen Dhillon 7

KCI 36, Eastwood 15
KCI:  Michaela Schlumberger 11, Liv Mickie 9
ECI:  Emma Miller 6

Preston 39, Elmira 24
PHS:  Claire Gagne 11, Avery Levert 8
EDSS:  Cassie Martin 9

SJAM - bye win (SSS)

Final WCSSAA Standings
T1.  Grand River 12-0
T1.  KCI 12-0
3.  Jacob Hespeler 10-2
T4.  SJAM 9-3
T4.  Preston 9-3
T6.  Galt 8-4
T6.  Bluevale 8-4
8.  Cameron Hts. 6-6
T9.  WODSS 4-7
T9.  Elmira 4-7
T9.  Forest Hts. 4-7
T9.  Eastwood 4-7
-----
13.  WCI 3-8
14.  Glenview Park 2-10
15.  Huron Hts. 1-11

In terms of the playoff seeding, it looks like this:
1.  Grand River
2.  KCI
3.  Jacob Hespeler
4.  SJAM (common opponent tiebreak)
-----
5.  Preston
6.  Galt (H2H tiebreak)
7.  Bluevale
8.  Cameron Hts.
9.  FHCI (+/- tiebreak)
10.  Elmira (ABC tiebreak)
11.  WODSS (H2H tiebreak)
12.  Eastwood

....I got ahead of myself yesterday and erroneously tweeted that the seeding for the final four teams was Forest Heights, WODSS, Eastwood and Elmira (my bad!).

Initially, I omitted EDSS from further contention as they had a 1-4 record against common opponents, whereas the other three teams were 2-3.  However, WCSSAA regulations regarding tiebreakers force one team to be deemed the "winner of the tiebreak", and then you repeat the process for the remaining tied teams.

As such, there were 5 common opponents of which Forest Heights had the best +/- differential.

The three remaining teams (EDSS, WODSS, ECI) were then assessed head to head, where EDSS beat WODSS and WODSS beat ECI.  As per the WCSSAA tiebreak procedure, the "A-B-C" rule comes into play (one team beats one, while the other beats team C), placing Elmira 10th, Waterloo-Oxford 11th and Eastwood 12th.

Confused yet?  Good.

Here's the upcoming first-round playoff schedule (teams ranked #1-4 receive byes):

(12) Eastwood at (5) Preston
(11) WODSS at (6) Galt
(10) Elmira at (7) Bluevale
(9) Forest Hts. at (8) Cameron Hts.

Pretty wild last day for the Forest Heights Trojans, who could have been out of the playoffs had they lost to Glenview yesterday, move all the way up to 9th after their win.
