It’s no secret that coach Ruth Barr and her veteran-laiden Delhi Raiders want another shot at the Simcoe Sabres.
The senior girls basketball team, now 4-1, kept pace with the undefeated Sabres thanks to a 51-29 win over the Valley Heights Bears Tuesday at home.
“We’re coming along,” Barr said. “We have a lot of natural talent, which is our strength.
“We’re not where we want to be at the end of the year, but we’re going in the right direction,” she said. “We’re still making progress every game. We have a lot of court smarts, and they play very well off of each other.”
And that was apparent during Tuesday’s game, as the Raiders displayed some sharp play making.
“That’s hard to teach, but they’ve been playing so long together, they just know where each other are,” Barr said.
Breanne VandeVen led all scorers with 17 points, while Leah Ebdon poured in 16. Kendra Freund scored nine, Emily Leger, and Erin Socholotiuk had four each, while Kelsey Ward netted two, and Morgan King added one.
Shandi Pace led the Bears scoring 10, while Kristen Fros netted six. Brianna Spanics added two and Steph Fros had one.
While Tuesday’s tilt wasn’t in doubt, Barr said it was a great opportunity to work on things.
“We really tried to slow it down in the second half,” Barr said. “We wanted the girls to work on some things. We want to be able to set things up, so we can get ready for teams like SCS.”
In other action, the Sabres remain undefeated, beating the Waterford Wolves 56-14.
In junior action, the Sabres beat the Wolves 34-6.
