WCSSAA Senior: Crusaders Beat Hawks, Stay Perfect

Maddy Horst poured in 21 points and Alisha Glendinning added 7 as the Waterloo-Oxford Crusaders knocked off the Jacob Hespeler Hawks 41-32 on Thursday afternoon in WCSSAA Senior Girls' play.

With the win, WODSS improves to 8-0 while Jacob Hespeler falls to 6-2.  These two teams, along with KCI (also 8-0) are expected to battle for CWOSSA's two "AAA" berths.

Candice Wright (17) and Courtney Wright (6) were the top scorers for Jacob Hespeler on Thursday.

With only one game next week on Thursday for Waterloo-Oxford (Elmira) and KCI (Preston), we will likely see a battle between those two unbeaten clubs on Tuesday, October 22nd at KCI.

Other scores were:

Bluevale 44, Forest Hts. 19
My Pick:  BCI by 28
Julia Curran (13) and Natalie Bishop (12) both had double-digit performances as the Knights kept pace at the top of the standings with a win over the Trojans.  Linna Liou had 4 for FHCI.

Grand River 50, Cameron Hts. 43
My Pick:  CHCI by 6
With CHCI's Hunter Johns sidelined with an ankle injury, Tyshaine Page stepped in nicely, knocking home 8 threes en route to a 26-point performance but it wasn't enough as the Rens held on for the win.  Tara DeBoer (15) and Hannah Gardiner (10) led the way for Grand River.

KCI 43, Southwood 24
My Pick:  KCI by 9
The Raiders moved to 9-0 with a big effort from Olivia Nelles (24).  Alia Hazineh added 11 more for KCI, while Shayla Carey (10) and Cali Doran (7) topped the Southwood scoring.

Huron Hts. 32, Preston 25
My Pick:  HHSS by 12
Aly Jacobs and Katrina Kostecki had 9 each to guide Huron to an important win and put them one game clear of the final playoff spot.  Megan Bittner led the Panthers, also with 9 points.

SJAM 24, Eastwood 23
My Pick:  SJAM by 7
The Highlanders win a low-scoring nailbiter, thanks to a solid 13-point effort from Taylor Trush.  Danielle Schaefer had 8 more for SJAM, while ECI was led by Mel Samuel (7) and Sam Legue (6).

WCI 58, Elmira 38
My Pick:  WCI by 18
Danielle Sauve's 20-point effort led three Vikes in double figures (Kaylee Anagnostopoulos 14 & Jessica Roes 10) as they moved to 7-1 on the season.  Nicole Cressman had 15 and Sydney Jones 10 for Elmira.

Bye Win - Galt (GPSS)
