WCSSAA Senior: Vikes Squeak Out Win Over Gaels

Jacob Hespeler, Elmira and WCI seem to be the teams giving me fits in the picks column this year.

Of course, part of that is because I'm probably not used to the Vikings not winning every game by 20+ points (as in years previous).....it certainly made my job a lot easier.

All kidding aside, the remodeled Vikes took a big step forward on Tuesday by edging out the Cameron Heights Golden Gaels 34-30 in a thriller in downtown Kitchener yesterday afternoon.  The win was big for WCI, in that it currently puts them as the top "AAAA" team in WCSSAA and in good position to possibly snag a first-round bye come playoff time.

In fact, the remaining schedule looks pretty friendly for WCI, so I don't see them ending up with more than 2 losses, which usually is good for a 3-5 seed in the WCSSAA standings.

Kaylee Anagnostopoulos led the way for WCI with 17 on Tuesday, while Danielle Sauve added 6.  Tyshaine Page (11) and Nina Farkic (10) were high scorers for Cameron.

The other game I got wrong in the picks column saw Southwood get past Elmira 47-45 in Overtime, on a buzzer beater by Cali Doran.

Doran had 8 points in the game, while Taylor White pumped home 29 for the Sabres.  Nicole Cressman led the Lancers with 15.

In other games on Tuesday:

Bluevale 37, Eastwood 4
My Pick:  BCI by 31
Julia Curran poured in 15 points while Natalie and Sarah Bishop each added 5 in this one.  Kayla Shantz led ECI with 3.

Forest Hts. 38, Galt 28
My Pick:  FHCI by 8
Linna Liou poured in 13 to help the Trojans take out the Ghosts on Tuesday, with Meagan Meade and Linly Liou adding 6 more.  Cassy Ramlal (7), Molly Bradford (6) and Megan White (6) were tops for Galt.

KCI 42, SJAM 16
My Pick:  KCI by 18
The Raiders are still unbeaten after taking out SJAM on Tuesday.  Amy Graves (8) and Olivia Nelles (7) led the way for KCI while Taylor Trush and Kosi Okwvokenye had 5 each for SJAM.

Grand River 63, Huron Hts. 49
My Pick:  GRCI by 12
Grade 10 F Tara DeBoer poured in 28 points in this one, as the Rens got the "W".  Jenna Gangl led the way for the Huskies, with 13 points.

JHSS over PHS (score unreported); Bye Win - WODSS (GPSS)
