St. Benedict lost -- and won -- on Monday afternoon at Resurrection.
Coming into the game undefeated, the St. Benedict Saints needed to win or lose by 3 points or less to the Resurrection Phoenix in order to maintain their grasp on first place in the D8 standings.
The Saints did exactly that, holding the Phoenix scoreless over the last 5 minutes of the game and rallying back from a 33-25 deficit to lose 33-31.
In fact, onlookers may have been surprised to see St. Benedict allow Resurrection to hold for the final shot (a three-point attempt that would have covered the +/- head to head spread), but clearly they knew what they were doing.
The other "A division" game on Monday saw St. David defeat St. Mary's in a very low scoring 16-6 contest.
In "B division", Rockway (now 2-7) upset Monsignor Doyle (now 4-5) by a 31-25 count. Woodland knocked off PRDG by a 24-10 in the other D8 junior tilt on Monday.
