WCSSAA Senior: Playoff Chase Heats Up

Things are certainly heating up in the WCSSAA Senior Girls' basketball circuit, where six teams currently boast records of 6-2 or better.

With limited action to recap from last night, let's take a look at how the top 7 teams might stack up at the end of the season:

Waterloo-Oxford
The Crusaders have four road games left on their schedule (Elmira, KCI, Southwood, and Cameron Heights).  Although there's certainly potential for the Crusaders to slip up (the Raiders and Gaels being the most likely culprits of that), they'll certainly be favoured in all those games.

Projected:  12-0, 1st Place

Bluevale Collegiate
Like WO, the Knights might be able to run the table in their final four games.  It certainly won't be easy though, with three games against "top 7 teams" (vs. GRCI, vs. WCI, @ CHCI) before rounding out their schedule against Galt.  The Knights are playing well though, and I think should sweep their remaining schedule.

Projected:  11-1, 2nd Place

Jacob Hespeler
The Hawks have a couple of Cambridge rivalry games upcoming (vs. Galt, @ SSS) before concluding their schedule at home against KCI and Grand River.  A sweep of those would guarantee them 3rd place in the WCSSAA standings, with tiebreakers over WCI & KCI.

Projected:  10-2, 3rd Place (Tiebreaker)

Waterloo CI
I can't see the Vikes finishing any worse than 10-2, with three games against teams in the lower half of the standings still on their schedule (@SJAM, vs. FHCI, vs. HHSS).  Their game against Bluevale will likely determine if they finish 11-1 or 10-2, but as you know from the above, I'll go with the Knights at home.

Given the lack of common opponents shared with KCI, the battle for 4th/5th might come down to a +/- tiebreak against common opponents, but we'll see.

Projected:  10-2, 4th Place (Tiebreaker)

Kitchener CI
You can't deny that the Raiders have had a somewhat favourable draw this season, avoiding several of the top teams entirely (Bluevale, WCI, and Grand River).  That said, you still have to play the cards you're dealt and the Raiders have done so nicely, picking up 8 wins in 8 tries.  Things will get a little more difficult down the stretch, with a home game against WO and road game against JHSS on the schedule.  Home games against Preston and Eastwood, though, should assure the Raiders of a 10-win season.

Projected:  10-2, 5th Place (Tiebreaker)

Grand River
The youthful Rens should at least get 8 wins on their campaign, with SJAM and ECI heading to East Kitchener to the GRCI gym.  The Rens will be underdogs against Bluevale and Jacob Hespeler in their road games, but certainly have the talent to be competitive.

Projected:  8-4, 6th Place

Cameron Heights
Currently at 5-3, the Gaels should improve to 7-3 with games at Huron Heights and vs. Eastwood next up on their schedule.  They do finish with two tough games, vs. Bluevale and Waterloo-Oxford.  I wouldn't count them out in those two, especially at home, but the Knights and 'Saders look like the top two teams in the league right now.

Projected:  7-5, 7th Place
