WCSSAA Junior: Hawks Take Battle of Unbeatens

A strong second-half defensive effort propelled the Jacob Hespeler Hawks to an important road win over their Cambridge rivals, the Preston Panthers.

The Hawks held Preston to just 9 points in the final sixteen minutes, en route to a 34-22 win to improve to 6-0.  Preston falls to 5-1.

Charlotte Clifford (10), Shianne Riggan (6) and Kendra Dennis (6) were tops for JHSS on Tuesday, while Annie Collins had 4 and Claire Gagne 3 for Preston.

The other big game on Tuesday saw KCI remain unbeaten with a 38-28 win over SJAM, who were 5-1 coming into that game.

Thea Taylor (14) and Liv Mickie (10) were both in double figures for the Raiders, while Joanna Bamberger had 13 and Deri Curtin 8 for the 'Landers.

In other games on Tuesday:

Grand River 56, Huron Hts. 23
The Renegades actually had a 40+ point lead at halftime before showing good sportsmanship and taking the foot off the pedal in the second half.  Maya Day (13), Nancy Michael (13) and Megan Scnittke (12) were the top Rens, while Jamila Beckford had 8 and Sarah Bidinosti 6 for Huron.

Cameron Hts. 30, WCI 24
The Gaels pick up an important win in the race for a playoff berth, thanks to a game-high 16 from Katrina Stickel and 6 more by Alexandra Smith.  Ramla Abdalla had 15 for the Vikes, with Victoria Giguere adding 5.

Bluevale 34, Eastwood 8
The Knights moved closer to one of the top 4 seeds (and a first round bye) with a key win at Eastwood.  Kiera Grein (8) and Emily Yeselstein (6) led the way on Tuesday.

Galt 52, Forest Hts. 31
The Galt Ghosts have been playing some good basketball as of late, and Tuesday was no exception as they posted a big win over Forest Heights.  Emma Buck (21) and Amy Cureton (12) were the top scorers, while Sona Khalifeh (13) and Nyakacge Paljola (13) led the FHCI scoresheet.

WODSS 38, Glenview Park 30
Justina Meneses had 10 and Kai Wilson 8 for the Crusaders as they picked up their third win of the season.  Chuchu Oyual had a game-high 14 for GPSS, with Emily Dunn adding 6.
