The Resurrection Phoenix are going into the playoffs as the team to beat in D8 Senior Girls' basketball.
The Phoenix knocked off second place Kitchener St. Mary's by a 48-29 score yesterday afternoon, finishing the year with a perfect 10-0 mark. The Eagles are second at 8-2, with both losses coming to Resurrection.
Scoring details weren't immediately available from source.
The other D8 game on Monday saw the St. Benedict Saints upend the St. David Celtics, 35-34. Kayla Leusink (18) and Dana Milani (16) accounted for virtually all of the Saints scoring, but it was the other point that ended up technically being the most important.
The win moves St. Benedict to 5-5 and 3rd place overall, while St. David finishes at 4-6.
New to D8 this year are "Quarterfinal Games" between the bottom four teams in the six-team league.
