CWOSSA News and Views: Expanded D8 Junior League

After a few years of a 6-team league, the D8 is expanding for this coming season ---- but still with "familiar faces".

The Woodland Christian Cavaliers will be back for the first time in quite some time (7-8 years?).  Nice to see the interest in basketball peak back up at the traditionally strong volleyball school, as Woodland hasn't fielded a team since 2008-09 in the D4 league (3-5).

Meanwhile, the PRDG Chevaliers will also make an appearance in the junior league.  PRDG will not be fielding a senior team this year (they did last year), but one of their senior vets from last year, Dylan Floyd, will be a player to watch.  Floyd played a key role on that PRDG senior squad despite being only in grade 9.

If you add in the Rockway Flames, that means there are 3 "A" schools vying for a CWOSSA berth.  Should make for some exciting games, and I'm sure Rockway will appreciate the company after having a tough go of things last year.

Early indications are that the D8 will be a fairly wide-open league, with the St. Mary's Eagles having the inside track should star Mike Blumel return to the junior program.  The Resurrection Phoenix have some nice size, including 6'5" football star Andrew Pickett, while St. David will be coached by Dave MacNeil who has a few of his Wildhawk club kids entering grade nine at SDCSS.  Despite a few key graduations to the senior level, St. Benedict can't be overlooked either and will be seeking a trip to their 2nd consecutive D8 final.
