D10 Thursday: Celtics Cruise Past Shorthanded Falcons

You could say it didn't quite live up to the hype.

With two of their top three scorers (Erica McFadden & Hailey Salvian) out of action due to a school field trip, the Centre Wellington Falcons couldn't compete with the Bishop Mac Celtics, falling 60-27 on Thursday in Fergus.

Unfortunately for CW, the margin of victory means that if both teams end up tied in the standings, that the Celtics would take the tiebreak (Season Series 1-1, BMAC +30).

Tesha Kraszkiewicz had 17 to lead Bishop Mac, while Jaime Janssen saw lots of extra attention but still scored 17 for Centre Wellington.

In Thursday's other key game, the Guelph CVI Gaels snuck past St. James 37-35 to give themselves an edge in the race for the "AAA" CWOSSA berth.  Of course, with one game between the teams still to be played (and only a 2-point margin of victory in this one), there won't be any celebrating just yet in downtown Guelph.

Here's Thursday's full results:

Senior

Guelph CVI 37, St. James 35
My Pick:  STJ
Despite 21 points from Brittany Gazzola, the Gaels were able to get the important road win as mentioned above.  Alex Gault added 5 more for STJ, while GCVI received 11 from Katie Strongman and 8 from Jamie Young.

Bishop Mac 60, CWDHS 27
My Pick:  BMAC
Got lucky with the coin flip as I was unaware of the roster situation before the game.  As noted above, Kraszkiewicz (BMAC) and Janssen (CW) paced their teams with 17 each.  Rebecca Clark added 8 more for the Celts.

Lourdes 65, Orangeville 35
My Pick:  OLOL
A balanced attack allowed Lourdes to pick up their 2nd win of the year ---- Madison Vetteretto (14), Victoria Brombal (14) and Cecilia Hudecki (13) were the top scorers for the Crusaders.  The Bears received a game-high 16 from Claire Fenton, 9 from Evelyn Burgess and 7 from Meg Doyle.

JF Ross 41, Centennial 27
My Pick:  JFR
Julia Robertson put in 12 and Alexis Dempsey added 7 as the Royals stayed hot with a win at Centennial.  Hannah Ferguson (9) and Kendra Achonwa (8) topped the CCVI scoresheet.
