Sorry to all of my loyal D8 followers that I completely forgot to get my picks up in time for yesterday's games. You could argue that I was perhaps avoiding a "toss up" in the senior circuit between the current 2nd and 3rd place teams (RCSS & SBCSS), but I assure you that I just didn't have the time yesterday.
On the junior side of things, we saw a St. Benedict-Resurrection game that was a rematch of last year's D8 finals. Like many of the games to this point between the top four teams in the league, it was a single-digit affair with the Phoenix pulling out a 43-37 home win, backed by 24 points from Sarah Schultz (D8 junior high on the year). Brooke Wanklin had 18 for the Saints.
Here's the rundown and standings:
Junior
Resurrection 43, St. Benedict 37
RCSS: Sarah Schultz 24, Ellen McGowan 10
SBCSS: Brooke Wanklin 18, Amber Baetson 13
St. Mary's 44, Rockway 5
SMHS: Brittany Gulic 12, Maggie Srougi 12
RMC: Emma Bender 2, Samantha Veltri 2

Senior
Resurrection 50, St. Benedict 40
A huge game from Jacqui Rodrigues of the Phoenix, who poured in 26 in the victory to help give Rez the edge in the race for a home-court playoff game. Janelle Santi added 18 more for RCSS, with Emma Higgins adding 4. For the Saints, Meaghan Mason had 11, Alisa Tkaczyk 10, and Dana Milani 9.
The Phoenix actually trailed by 12 at halftime, but rebounded (no pun intended) in the second half to get the W.

The SMHS bench got a lot of work in this one, and they didn't disappoint. Emma Jada (16) and Monica Januszek (12) topped the Eagle scoring. Emma Kschesinski (7) and Steph Veltri (5) accounted for all of the Rockway scoring.
