Senior WCSSAA: Defense, Rookies Star as Hawks Take Down Lancers

In (arguably) the biggest game on the Tuesday WCSSAA schedule, the Jacob Hespeler Hawks received a combined 24-point outing from two of their key grade eleven rookies --- Brooklyn Wright (16) and Taylor Dennis (8) and played some tremendous defense at home to pull out a big 34-20 win over the visiting Elmira Lancers.

Another grade eleven rookie, Elmira's Krista Wiens, hit for half of EDSS' total with 10 points, while Jasmine Wilson added 4.

The win further solidifies the Hawks' grasp on an AAA CWOSSA berth, and puts them on the inside track towards a potential first-round bye ---- although they do have WCI, Preston, and Southwood (along with HHHS) still on the schedule.

Here are the other games from Tuesday.  As a side note, I pulled out a 7-0 picks record (just saying!):

Eastwood 50, Forest Heights 25
Michelle Hudyn poured in enough to squeak past the Trojans on her own (26 points), while Caitlyn Schlegel added 8 in the win.  For FHCI, Blair McNaughton was held relatively in check (11), while Sara Potter added 6.

KCI 45, Glenview Park 25
An important win for the Raiders as they pick up the win in this battle.  Olivia Nelles pumped in 12 points, while Erin Kelly added 7 for KCI; GPSS received 8 from Emily McLean and 6 from Alyssa Goodridge.

Southwood 48, Galt 43
I had a hunch that it might be close, and it indeed was in this Galt rivalry game.  Nicole Barnard (19) and Kayleigh Hutt-Taylor (9) paced the victors, while the Ghosts received a nice game from Suzanna Lam (17) and 5 more from Rachel Rivers.

Preston 48, Huron Heights 30
The Panthers are also 7-1 after easing past the Huskies on Tuesday.  Alex Aguiar and Nikea Worrell had 11 each to lead the Panther scoring, while Emily Bidinosti (game-high 14) and Rachel Wilkinson (6) led the way for Huron.

Bluevale 48, SJAM 22
The Knights stay undefeated with a win in this all-Waterloo showdown.  Sarah Hamm had 10 and Natalie Bishop 8 in the victory, while the 'Landers received 8 from Jillian Reiter and 6 from Malena McCrossan-Moses.

WCI 50, Grand River 24
The fact that WCI was also victorious on Tuesday will set up an undefeated showdown on Thursday between WCI & BCI.  In this game, Lindsay Lessard had 16 and Lindsay Taylor 12 for the Vikes; GRCI received 6 from Ana Milanovic and 5 from Lily Broderick.
