D5 Tuesday: Green Eagles Win Creates Standings Logjam

The St. John's Green Eagles aren't going anywhere just yet.

Fresh off of their first D5 loss in several seasons, the Eagles rebounded with a 54-42 win over the previously undefeated Assumption Lions on Tuesday evening in Brantford.

Katie Polischuk had a strong outing for SJC, pouring in 23 points in the victory.  She was aided by 12 points each from Bridget Monkman and Megan Piette.  Assumption received 16 from Emily Gill, 11 from Rebekah Couperus and 10 more from Sara Harris.

Thanks to that result, as well as North Park's 51-20 win over Brantford Collegiate, there are now three teams atop the standings with 3-1 marks.

In the NPC-BCI game, top Trojan scorers were Haley Welsh (10) and Cassie Fletcher (9) while Brantford had 6 from Megan Melling and 5 apiece from Cara Humeniuk and Taylor Zinger.

The other senior game on Tuesday saw Pauline Johnson pick up their first win by defeating Paris DHS 49-23.  Chelsea Biggs was dominant in the paint, putting home 24 points for PJC.  Alex Forsyth topped the Panther scoring with 8.
