D10: Centennial Dodges a Bullet....Again

5-0 Centennial vs 1-4 GCVI (whose lone win was against Orangeville). Should be a blowout, right?

Not so fast.

The Spartans barely held off the charging Gaels on the road by a 78-76 final. Naturally, as a high scoring affair, a bunch of guys hit the scoresheet in double figures.

Rob House led the way for the Spartans with 30 points, while teammate Adrian Varilla added 17 points. Joe Warnholtz had 17 for GCVI, while Namen Yamini added 14 points.

Centennial, considered one of the top teams in "AAAA" CWOSSA, has been cutting it rather close lately. After winning their first two games by a combined 67 points, they have won their last four by a combined 13 points (4, 2, 5, and 2).....a sign of parity in the D10 league perhaps?

Regardless, it should probably give the Gaels some confidence going into the second half of the schedule. And as close as the games have been, the Spartans are still sitting pretty at 6-0, which is the number that matters at the end of the day.

In the other game played on Tuesday (JFR/ODSS was, I believe, postponed)......the St. James Lions got some revenge for a defeat suffered at the hands of Centre Wellington in a tournament this past weekend, defeating CW by a 61-54 final. This keeps St. James tied with CCVI atop the standings with a 6-0 record in advance of next Tuesday's matchup between the top two clubs.

The Lions got 19 points from Ryan Higgins, along with 9 from Kenny Hasson and 8 from Kelan McCormick.

For CW's balanced attack, Gavin McNamara contributed 16, Reid Goindi had 15, and Tim Francis put in 13 points.

Junior D10

As of posting, the lone junior score reported in was St. James' 47-39 victory over Centre Wellington.

The Lions got 23 big points from Emilio Pivato in the victory, while Josh MacDonald chipped in 8.

Sivan Heeralall led CW with 14 points.

The win improves St. James to 4-2, while the Falcons drop to 2-4 on the year.

Hey Mark why no love for the girls all-star games. Brantford girls played in the Hamilton 4 team all-star event against Hamilton Catholic, Hamilton Public and Halton. The WCSSAA all-star game was last night at Bluevale.
