D10 Senior Midseason Awards & Review

Over the holidays, I'll try and still throw up a few things to keep people entertained.

Here's the first of a couple "midseason" reviews (I realize that WCSSAA, with the postponement of the Dec. 8th games, is only 1/3 through their schedule...).

D10 Senior

Midseason All-Stars

First Team
Rob House, Centennial (MVP)
Ryan Higgins, St. James
Ryan Cook, JF Ross
Sharieff Peru, Our Lady of Lourdes
Mike Finoro, Our Lady of Lourdes

Second Team
Adrian Varilla, Centennial
Jay Francis, Centennial
Justin MacNamara, CWDHS
Gavin MacNamara, CWDHS
James Ingram, Guelph CVI

All-Rookie Team
Mike Finoro, Our Lady of Lourdes
Sharieff Peru, Our Lady of Lourdes
Gavin MacNamara, CWDHS
Reid Giondi, CWDHS
Shamlo Saeed, JF Ross
Owen Moynihan, JF Ross

(Positive) Surprise Team
St. James is off to a great start, but I'm going to have to go with the Lourdes Crusaders. Lourdes has already doubled up last year's win total (they were 2-12 during the D10 regular season), and just before the Christmas break were able to beat JF Ross at home. In addition, they were able to hang with the first place Centennial Spartans before falling by a 74-69 score.

Rookies Mike Finoro and Sharieff Peru have been adjusting fine to senior-level play, and are both scoring 20+ points per contest.

(Negative) Surprise Team
With the graduation of the bulk of their scoring offense, you had to figure that the Bishop Mac Celtics would struggle. The Celts, however, have only been able to muster a 2-6 league record at the break ---- with both wins coming over winless Orangeville. That said, the Celts are a young club and should continue to see solid talent move up through their junior program over the next couple of years, so this downturn should be short-lived.

Second Half Predictions
So far with the D10, the theme has been "expect the unexpected". Although things have gone (relatively) to form, top seeded Centennial has had a couple of close calls with the lower half of the league (GCVI - 2 point win, ODSS -5 point win).

I'm still thinking that we're going to see a CCVI/St. James final, but we'll see what the other six clubs have to say about that. If one team gets hot (especially come playoff time), things could get interesting.

Projected AAAA Participants: CCVI (1), JFR or CWHDS (2)
Projected AAA Participant: St. James
Projected AA Participant: Our Lady of Lourdes
