District 8 Wednesday Games & Previews

Tough one with Doyle over St. David yesterday - drops the record back down under 80% (7-2 on the year). Congrats to the Mustangs for that impressive win, which hopefully will go a long way for their program. After years of being near the bottom of the standings, they might have a shot at a playoff spot this year. Nice to see....

Anyways, here's tomorrow's D8 action in the senior league.

St. David (1-2) at Rockway (0-3)
Pick: St. David
Line: SDCSS by 33

I don't think the Celtics will take it easy on Rockway, especially after Monday night. Looks like the Flames will be the permanent owners of the D8 basement this year, but have some nice young talent (i.e. Josh Klassen). They'll learn a lot from the veteran Celtics here.

St. Mary's (3-0) at Resurrection (2-1) **Game of the Day**
Pick: St. Mary's
Line: SMHS by 5

Should be a good game (3:30 at Rez) with some serious implications down the line. A St. Mary's victory would put them in tremendous shape at 4-0 with only Monsignor Doyle left to play for the first time.

I'm sure the Phoenix won't go quietly, especially at home. That said, they may be a bit shorthanded for this one. Starting guard Tyler Schneider injured his calf during the final of Resurrection's home tournament this past weekend ---- a weird back-side pick play where he got caught up. Schneider is doubtful for Wednesday's game, and if he does play he likely won't be 100%.

If Schneider is indeed out, they will need strong support from reserve guards Brandon Lee and Cam Gibbs.

The Eagles have been getting nice play from rookie PG Issac Lance, who has gelled nicely with their returning vets (Ben Bankazo, Mike Kasunic, Tony Huynh, and James Gibson) in the starting lineup. Always a nice luxury to have Demar & Alex Thompson coming off the bench, as those guys can put up some points in a hurry (Alex Thompson led Mary's against St. David with 16).

For the Phoenix to win, they'll need to be able to use their size advantage at virtually every position --- they can even go about 6'3"+ across the board when they play Andrew Mwangi and Mike Tyler at the 2/3 positions. That said, they don't want to make this a slow-down game, as the Phoenix are at their best when they get up and down the floor.

As with most games, it will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes. The Eagles have been the more poised team of the two thus far, and I'm picking them to take Rez in a tight one here.

Junior Picks
Year To Date: 9-0 (1.000)

St. Mary's (3-0) @ Resurrection (3-0) ....this could be the one that ruins the perfect season. If it were at St. Mary's, I'd probably go with the Eagles. I'll take RCSS here.

St. David (1-2) @ Rockway (0-3) ....David's should get their second win in a row here.
