Knights-Vikes Shootout: BCI Advances to Semifinals

Bluevale 72, St. Mary's 66

In a matchup between two of the top clubs in "AAAA" CWOSSA at Bluevale, Stefan Cvrkalj put home 30 points while Karsten Beney added 16 and the Bluevale Knights defeated the St. Mary's Eagles 72-66.

The game was a close affair throughout with the intensity (and foul totals) that more closely resembled playoff basketball.

After St. Mary's held a brief lead (19-17) at the end of the first quarter, Bluevale led for the remainder of the contest including 36-31 at halftime and 49-47 at the end of three quarters.

The keys to the Bluevale victory? Foul shooting and rebounding. The Knights shot 86% from the line (25/29 for the game) and nearly doubled up the smaller Eagles on the boards (37-20). Andrew Beney in particular was huge on the boards for Bluevale, and almost came away with a double-double (8 points/11 rebounds).

Hot three point shooting by Alex Thompson (5/10) and Isaac Lance (4 threes in the second half) kept the Eagles within striking distance throughout the contest. Thompson ended up leading the Eagles with 23 points off the bench while Lance had 13 points and 4 assists.

Bluevale will now advance to play the winner of Orchard Park (Stoney Creek) and Peterborough TASS, currently underway at Bluevale.
