Weekend Tournament Updates

Resurrection - Senior Tournament
At Resurrection, today's matchups are already underway:

7th place - St. Mary's (Woodstock) vs. Eastwood
5th place - Bishop Reding (Milton) vs. Adam Scott (Peterborough)
3rd place - Hillfield Strathallan (Hamilton) vs. Lourdes (Guelph)
Championship - St. Christopher (Sarnia) vs. Resurrection (Kitchener)

I like St. Christopher in the championship final, although Rez will be on their own floor. Should be a great game!

Update: St. Christopher defeated Resurrection in the final by 4 points.

SJAM - Highlander Hoopla Junior Boys Tournament

First Round - Friday
St. Mary's 50, SJAM 43
Centennial CVI 55, Grand River 33 (Ed Gray 21 for CCVI)
JF Ross 59, North Park 54 (OT)
Forest Hts. 59, Resurrection 49

Second Round
SJAM 53, Centennial 43
Grand River 45, St. Mary's 23
Forest Hts. 62, North Park 39
Resurrection 59, JF Ross 47

Semifinals
Forest Heights 64, SJAM 44 (Juwan Miller 23 & Javon Masters 20 for FHCI)
Grand River 62, Resurrection 51

As you can see, it was a double knockout format (first round winners play first round losers), so two teams that lost their first game (GRCI & Resurrection) won their second game and made the semifinals. In a rematch of last year's junior CWOSSA final on the same court, GRCI was able to get some revenge with a 62-51 victory thanks to some great play by Filip Cvrkalj.

Friendly #1: Centennial 54, North Park 45 (CCVI: Aleks Kaludjerovic 22/Ed Gray 21)
Friendly #2: St. Mary's 74, JF Ross 65 (SMH: C. Walser 25, JFR: Michael Friesen 29)
3rd Place: Resurrection 65, SJAM 49 (Game note: Both teams played all players, while a couple SJAM starters---Connor Bradley and Theshawn Barry, did not play).
Championship: Grand River vs. Forest Hts (Update: 29-20 @ Halftime for FHCI. Game was tied at 10 when the Trojans went on a 17-0 run. GRCI replied with a 10-2 run before half to make it a game).

Bluevale at the SOSI in Hamilton
Bluevale Collegiate is down at the prestigious SOSI Tournament in Hamilton.

Yesterday, despite 25 points from Stefan Cvrkalj, the Knights fell to a very good Brampton D'Youville squad 61-46. D'Youville has a solid group of grade 11s (who won the Ontario All-Catholic last year as juniors) as well as Manny Sahota, who has accepted a D1 scholarship to Cornell.

Today, the Knights rebounded to defeat Hamilton Westdale 74-63. Stefan Cvrkalj had 29 and Andrew Beney had an excellent game as well with 25 for Bluevale.

Timmy Rose Tourney at St. David
Big game yesterday between two of the top (preseason) picks in CWOSSA ---- Bishop Mac dumped Brantford St. John's by a 64-47 score. Michael Clouthier (14) and Mitchell Wood (10) were the high scorers for the Celtics.

Though youthful, the Celtics are definitely a team to watch out for this year....
