CWOSSABasketball.com Senior Power Rankings: Week 5

This week, we welcome a new team to the CWOSSABasketball.com "Top 10" Power Ranking --- the Southwood Sabres.

The Sabres looked impressive at their home tournament last weekend, knocking off two teams that were ranked in last week's ranking, the Resurrection Phoenix and Jacob Hespeler Hawks.

Not much change otherwise this week, although there was a slight shift in the middle of the rankings.  Here's how it looks:

1.  Waterloo CI Vikings / Waterloo
Last Week:  #1
Ho-hum.  Another week, another #1 ranking for the Vikings after they doubled-up a couple of teams with winning records in the WCSSAA league.  They'll be at the Humber College Tournament this weekend.

2.  St. John's College Green Eagles / Brantford
Last Week:  #2

Is it shaping up to be another year with a WCI-St. John's CWOSSA "AAAA" final?  We'll see what the next couple of teams in the rankings have to say about that....

3.  Assumption CS Lions / Brantford
Last Week:  #3
The Lions have been working their way back from some injury issues, but are now back to near 100% strength.  They'll need all hands on deck for the stretch drive in the D5 league, and if they hope to dethrone SJC in the BCSSAA final.

4.  Waterloo-Oxford DSS Crusaders / Baden
Last Week:  #4
Picked up a hard-fought win yesterday against Bluevale to remain undefeated in league play and set up a HUGE showdown against WCI next Tuesday in Baden (5:00pm).

5.  Bishop Macdonell HS Celtics / Guelph (AA)
Last Week:  #6

I'll move the Celtics up one spot this week as a result of their "still-perfect" league record.  They sit two games clear of the teams in second place, JF Ross and Lourdes.

6.  Bluevale CI Knights / Waterloo
Last Week:  #7
The Knights would certainly be among the top teams in CWOSSA were it not for a couple of key pre-season injuries; however, they are certainly a team to be reckoned with as evidenced by their 3-point road loss to WODSS yesterday.  Circle the October 30th game (CHCI) on your calendars now as that could have some major implications to how things go in WCSSAA.

7.  Jacob Hespeler HS Hawks / Cambridge (AAA)
Last Week:  #5
The Hawks dropped a hard-fought battle to Southwood on Saturday, but regained their touch in league games against Preston and KCI.  They're still the top-ranked "AAA" school in the rankings.

8.  North Park CVS Trojans / Brantford (AAA)
Last Week:  #8
Speaking of AAA schools, the Trojans have been no slouch themselves despite being a "third place" team in Brantford. They have a firm grip on Brantford's CWOSSA "AAA" berth right now.

9.  Cameron Heights CI Golden Gaels / Kitchener
Last Week:  #9
Though the Gaels lost convincingly to WCI (like most other WCSSAA schools this season), they rebounded nicely against SJAM yesterday.  They're going to be battling Bluevale for 4th place in the WCSSAA standings, which is huge as it would mean a "home" quarterfinal game to the team that gets it.

10.  Southwood SS Sabres / Cambridge
Last Week:  NR
Southwood enters the rankings as a result of their second tournament championship on the season.  They took out (then) CWOSSA #10 Resurrection in a game where neither team had their leading scorer after Sarah Schulz injured her ankle early in the 3rd quarter (Taylor White didn't suit up in that one for SSS).  With her back in the lineup later in the day, they snuck past "AAA" and Cambridge rival Jacob Hespeler.  I look for them to eventually move past KCI in the WCSSAA standings and take the second "AAA" CWOSSA berth.

Honourable Mention / "On The Radar"
Resurrection CSS / Kitchener
Our Lady of Lourdes HS / Guelph
John F. Ross CVI / Guelph
St. James CHS / Guelph
