WCSSAA Junior: Tuesday Results

The playoff picture has begun to take shape in WCSSAA Junior Girls' Basketball, with Grand River and Waterloo Collegiate "officially" clinching first-round byes on Tuesday.

All of the playoff berths have now been accounted for, with Galt and Huron Heights securing the final two spots yesterday as well.  Galt defeated Preston, while Huron Heights lost to Jacob Hespeler on a buzzer-beater but still gets through due to being two games clear of Preston and Glenview Park with two games to go (HHHS has tie-breaking wins over both of those teams).

Here are yesterday's results:

Bluevale 43, Forest Heights 36
Big game here and it was a close one in West Kitchener.  Kiera Grein had 10 and Rachael Hamm added 8 in the win; Linna Liou hit a game-high 11 for the Trojans with Tyrah Wilson adding 9.

Galt 41, Glenview Park 39
This all-Cambridge affair went the way of the Ghosts, which (as mentioned) officially clinched them a playoff berth.  Amy Cureton had 14 and Molly Bradford 10 for Galt, while Emilie Lutz netted 14 and Katie Krulicki had 8 in response for Glenview.

Grand River 52, Cameron Hts. 26
The Renegades continue to roll through the WCSSAA schedule by doubling up Cameron on Tuesday.  Caroline Lorkovic (11) and Maya Day (9) led the way for GRCI on Tuesday while Nina Farkic (9) and Andjela Stankovic (5) were the top Gaels.

Jacob Hespeler 31, Huron Heights 30
Tasha Quiring hit a buzzer-beater for Jacob Hespeler to propel the Hawks to this win.  Jasmine Ramcharan (8) and Taylor Finamore (7) were the leading JHSS scorers; Kiana Chin had a game-high 20 points for Huron with Erica Boer adding 6.

Elmira 37, Preston 20
Nicole Cressman had a great outing with a 20-point effort as Elmira inched closer to clinching a first-round bye on Tuesday.  Kelsie Freeman added 5 for EDSS, while Claire Gagne (6) and Avery Levert (4) were the Preston leaders.

WCI 35, Waterloo-Oxford 4
Kaitlyn Bentz (8) and Olivia Bender (8) topped the WCI scoring in this one, while Hannah Appleton (4) took care of the W-O scoring.

Bye Wins:  KCI (SSS) and SJAM (ECI)

** - clinched first-round bye
* - clinched playoff-berth

Looks like an interesting final week of the regular season, with KCI, Cameron Heights and Bluevale all playing each other in their final two games.  The beneficiary of that schedule could be SJAM, who surely will move up assuming they can get past Glenview Park (1-9) and Waterloo-Oxford (4-6).

Meanwhile, the "middle of the standings" also provides an interesting race.  Given that Grand River should beat Forest Heights in their finale, Jacob Hespeler could take the #8 seed (and a first-round home playoff game) by winning their remaining outings (WODSS and GPSS).
