D10 Tuesday: Spartans Stun Royals

So much for what was supposed to be a relatively uneventful day in D10 senior girls' hoops.

Three of the four games were decided within 3 points, and one of them was a shocking result as Centennial (2-11) defeated JF Ross (9-4) by a 39-36 final on the road at JF Ross.

Trying to track down some details from that one, but I can tell you at this point that Kendra Achonwa and Hannah Ferguson had 12 each for Centennial while Julia Robertson (game-high 15 points) and Alanna Vosper (7) were the top JF Ross scorers.

Here's the other Tuesday scores:

Lourdes 65, St. James 62
My Pick:  Lourdes by 10

The Lions nearly pulled out a big road win on Tuesday themselves but fell just short in this one.  Hannah Pearsall put home a huge 24-point effort for Lourdes, while Monica Trimble added 14.  Brittany Gazzola scored 20 and Ashley Benham 14 for St. James.

CWDHS 45, Guelph CVI 42
My Pick:  CWDHS by 8
Chloe Trapp scored 14 for the Falcons as they locked down 5th place in the D10 standings with this win.  Hanna Chidwick had 12 for the Gaels.

Bishop Mac 48, Orangeville 23
My Pick:  BMAC by 27
Claire Fenton had a game-high 12 for the Bears in this one, while Ellie Young netted 10 for the Celtics to help keep them undefeated (13-0) on the campaign.

D10 Senior Standings
1.  Bishop Mac 13-0
2.  Lourdes 11-2
3.  JF Ross 9-4
4.  St. James 8-5
5.  CWDHS 5-8
6.  Guelph CVI 3-10
7.  Centennial 2-11
8.  Orangeville 1-12

....not much is slated to change on the final day of the regular season.  In fact, all teams cannot move up or down with the exception of St. James and JF Ross, who will face each other at JFR.  St. James would need to win by 10+ in order to take over third place there.

Junior

JF Ross 39, Centennial 26
JFR:  Candice Geisel 17, Maddy Darling 9
CCVI:  Halle Milne 8, Emma Cain/Emma Korol 6

St. James 38, Lourdes 20
STJ:  Nastassja Herriot 9, Donna Zen 8
OLOL:  Elizabeth Endicott 7, Elise Roche 5

Bishop Mac 61, Orangeville 13
BMAC:  Cindy Seke 11, Jessica Burke 10
ODSS:  Caitlin McCleary 6

Guelph CVI 32, CWDHS 12
GCVI:  Sydney Wilson 8, Abby McIntyre 7
CWDHS:  Gabby Teri & Mercedes Ecclestone 4

Junior D10 Standings
1.  Guelph CVI 11-2
T2.  Bishop Mac 10-3
T2.  St. James 10-3
T4.  JF Ross 7-6
T4.  Centennial 7-6
6.  Lourdes 4-9
7.  CWDHS 3-10
8.  Orangeville 0-13

....still a lot to be decided in junior, with one game to go.

Guelph CVI (11-2) should defeat Orangeville (0-13) on Thursday to lock up first place in the D10 league.

Bishop Mac (10-3) holds the head-to-head tiebreak over St. James (1-1 in their 2 games but a +9), so will clinch 2nd with a win over Lourdes (4-9).

Despite their loss to JF Ross yesterday, Centennial has the inside track for 4th place right now as they have CWDHS (3-10) in their finale while Ross will play St. James.  That quarterfinal game is going to be very important as the winner will (likely) pick up the D10 #1 "AAAA" spot and an automatic CWOSSA berth.
