WCSSAA Senior Thursday: Crusaders Edge Knights; Stay Unbaeaten

The "game of the day" certainly lived up to its billing on Thursday afternoon in WCSSAA Senior Girls' action as the CWOSSA #4 Waterloo-Oxford Crusaders held off the CWOSSA #7 Bluevale Knights in a 44-41 thriller over in Baden.

Maddy Horst was outstanding as usual, pouring in 23 points for the Crusaders, while Becca Payne added 8 in the win.  Natalie Bishop (12) and Julia Curran (10) registered the top point totals for Bluevale.

The win allowed the Crusaders to remain unbeaten heading into a big-time part of their schedule; they have two more CWOSSA ranked teams --- WCI and Jacob Hespeler --- up next week.

Here's Thursday's other games:

Elmira 41, Glenview Park 23
My Pick:  EDSS by 18
Julia Frey (11) and Krista Wiens (9) led the way for the Lancers on Thursday as they handled Glenview Park on the road.  Justine Schwier had 10 and Josie Mackrow 6 for the Panthers.

Grand River 45, Eastwood 40
My Pick:  GRCI by 17
The Rens bent but didn't break on Thursday and held the Rebels from picking up their first win of the season.  Leticia Skeete had 12 and Jamie Noonan 10 for GRCI; Mel Samuel had a game-high 16 for Eastwood with Sam Legue adding 12.

Southwood 51, Huron Hts. 26
My Pick:  SSS by 23
Nicole Barnard (14) and Taylor White (12) were both in double-figures for Southwood as they moved to 6-3 on the season.  Aly Jacobs led the Huskies with 6.

Jacob Hespeler 44, KCI 19
My Pick:  JHSS by 10
The Hawks were all over the Raiders in this one, backed by 16 from Brooklynn Wright and 6 more from Meagan Rudd.    Christiana Koebel (6) and Olivia Nelles (5) were the top KCI scorers.

Preston 36, Galt 32
My Pick:  PHS by 14
The Ghosts hung around and nearly picked up their first win, but Ashley White wouldn't allow it as she poured in 20 points to pace the Panthers to victory.  Megan Bittner and Breanna Johnson added 7 each for Preston, while Ashlyn Beckman had 16 and Carissa Grove 8 for Galt.

Cameron Hts. 61, SJAM 26
My Pick:  CHCI by 26
Liz McLellan out-pointed the 'Landers on Thursday with a big 27-point effort, while Tyshaine Page added 7 more for Cameron.  Safina Husein was tops for SJAM with 9.

WCI 50, Forest Heights 25
