CWOSSA's NCAA Talent To Play Close To Home

Upon reviewing the upcoming NCAA schedules for the 2012-13 season, one thing has become clear:  there may certainly be an opportunity to check out (most of) our CWOSSA alums in person this season.

On the women's side, we all know that Kelly Van Leeuwen (Niagara), Jenn Lennox (Canisius) and Kaila Montgomery (Cleveland State) are well within driving distance.

Missouri freshman Michelle Hudyn, on the other hand, isn't --- and especially now that Missouri is a member of the SEC conference.  A 13-hour plus road-trip would be required to check out one of her games in Tennessee this season; Missouri plays almost its entire non-conference schedule at home this season, which is about a 14-hour trek.

On the men's side, there is an interesting scheduling occurrence to take note of.

Bucknell senior Bryson Johnson will be playing two games (as part of the 2K Sports Classic) just across the border at Niagara University in Lewiston, NY, this season.  Bucknell is scheduled to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles on Friday, November 16th (7pm) and then the New Mexico State Aggies the next day (5:30pm).  The Aggies and Purple Eagles will then battle on Sunday in the three-team affair.

The Bison also play at Cornell this season in Ithaca, NY, which is roughly about the same distance from Kitchener as our nation's capital.

Another Patriot League player, Lehigh sophomore Stefan Cvrkalj, will be down in Pittsburgh (~5 hours away) on November 12th and 13th.  The Mountain Hawks will be taking on Robert Morris on the Monday, and then either Pitt or Fordham in their second game of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Former SJAMer Murphy Burnatowski is now eligible this season at Colgate (also in the Patriot League) this season after transferring from Maine.  Games at Syracuse (November 25th) and Cornell (December 1st) would be the best chances for an in-person viewing, though early season affairs at Illinois (November 9th) and Marquette (November 11th) would likely make for a memorable road-trip, as well.

If anyone is looking for a "CWOSSA basketball road-trip", here's my suggestion:

November 12 (8:30pm)/13th (TBA) - Lehigh (Stefan Cvrkalj) games in Pittsburgh

November 15th (7:00pm) - Niagara Women (Kelly Van Leeuwen) game at home vs. Bowling Green

November 16th (7:00pm) - Bucknell (Bryson Johnson) game at Niagara University

November 17th (1:30pm) - Canisius Women (Jenn Lennox) game at home vs. Bucknell

....and then get back across the border in time to check out the CWOSSA finals on Saturday evening in either Brantford (AAA) or Guelph (AAAA).
