WCSSAA Tuesday: Junior Rens, Senior Crusaders Post Wins

The CWOSSA #1-ranked Grand River Junior Renegades and the CWOSSA #4-ranked Waterloo-Oxford Crusaders both won their games on Tuesday as part of the junior-senior doubleheader at Grand River Collegiate.

No surprise there.

However, both contests were certainly hanging "in the balance" late before those top-ranked clubs were able to thwart a possible upset bid.

In the junior game, the Rens led 33-27 with about 5:00 to go over the (4-4) Crusaders, but outscored the Crusaders 9-6 in the waning minutes to register a double-digit win (42-32).

Grade 9 star Tara Deboer had 12 and Maya Day 9 for the Rens, while Hannah Appleton had a game-high 15 for the Crusaders with Jordan Killing notching 5.

On the senior side, Grand River (3-5) actually trailed by only 6 points with under 3:00 to play in the contest before going cold.  Foul shots by the Crusaders extended that lead out to a 76-60 final in the highest scoring WCSSAA game this season.

Maddy Horst had a game-high 24 for the Crusaders, while Kailey DeBoer had 18 for the Renegades.

Here's a look at the rest of Tuesday's action, starting in senior:
