D10: Bears Pick Up First Senior Win Since 2008

It was a long time coming ---- literally.

For the Orangeville DSS Bears on Tuesday, all bad things associated with their 53-game regular-season D10 losing streak came to an end thanks to a 39-34 home win over the Centennial CVI Spartans.

Most members of the current Bears roster weren't even in high school the last time that ODSS won a league game, which was on October 28th, 2008, against Guelph CVI.  The overall D10 losing streak, if you include playoff games, was at 57 games total.

Still, the Bears' teams stuck with it and you had a feeling that this might be the year that the streak would be broken --- after all, the nucleus of this year's roster went 5-9 in the D10 junior league in 2010.

Claire Fenton (19) and Rachel Adams (8) were the leading scorers for Orangeville on Tuesday, while Hannah Ferguson (10) and Hannah Newman (5) responded for Centennial.

Both teams are now 1-10 on the season; should they finish tied after the regular season, Centennial would be awarded 7th place due to a +5 plus-minus during their two league meetings.

In other D10 senior games on Tuesday:

Bishop Mac 61, JF Ross 47

Andrea Priamo had a big game on the interior for Bishop Mac, as she scored 17 points while Jess Morris added 15.  Julia Robertson (14) and Sydney Resch (9) led the way for Ross.

St. James 47, CWDHS 37
My Pick:  STJ by 12
The Gazzola sisters were on fire on Tuesday, especially Brittany, who netted a game-high 26 points.  Chelsey Gazzola added 9 in the win for the Lions.  Hailey Salvian (16) and Alyssa Hoag (8) were tops for CWDHS.  The win assured St. James of a first-round home playoff game.

Lourdes 54, Guelph CVI 36

Hannah Pearsall paced the Crusaders to an important win with a 15-point effort, while Charlotte Case and Victoria Brombal added 8 each.  Cally Strongman (13), Jamie Young (6) and Hanna Chidwick (6) were tops for GCVI on Tuesday.
